Hello,

I have been using winamp since 2.*, tried #3, but went back to version2.91.

Now im using version5.
I have about 5gb of music on my harddisk, all in one folder. My music. All the tags are correct and everything, no bad file names. I always just started Winamp and then selected Open Files and load everything in that folder and start playing. One day it wouldnt load more than about 1000 files... so i figured, why dont I load all those files in the playlist editor, and save the playlist and start winamp by selecting that file. And that works.

Now I was checking out the Media Library and there are a bunch of options, so many things to do. What i would like to know from you guys is how you use winamp since i want to extend my options, how do you use the media library? What does it do for you?

I have a lot of music on my computer, from random songs and full albums to live concerts, and I use the ML to sort everything for me. I have different views for the different concerts and for albums, and then other views for random songs as well. It's very quick and easy for me to find exactly what I'm looking for. And if I want something right away, I just use the search bar.

Complete tags will certainly help your case :-) I myself put everything in the media library and use the views for whatever i'm currently really into, a few artists or albums, what have you. If i'm in the mood for something else it's just a quick search away, and i held onto the built in 'Most Played' view because my current favorites are typically easy access there.

All the filenames and tags are complete, i hate incomplete mp3's.

So, ive loaded the whole folder in the media library right. I understand its great search function... i can look for any artist, song title or album title. But, It doesnt really seem to enqueue files. And, after playing lets say all the songs i have from one artist that i selected.... i want winamp to continue playing with any song out of my collection in shuffle mode. This doesnt happen. Winamp will stop after it has played what i have chosen in the media library.

I miss a list in it that shows you what files are enqueued.

What i now did, is i installed this plugin. Using the del buton on my numeric pad i can search for a song and enqueue it or have it played right away. I can also see whats enqueued, and when its done it continues in shuffle mode with all songs loaded that are on my comp.

I want that in the media library, can it be done?

I just have all my music (3000 MP3's) in one big playlist. All my music is sorted into directories as follows:

Full Albums -> A, B, C, D, etc -> Artist name -> Album name
Misc -> A, B, C, D, etc

None of my MP3's have ID3v2 tags and all have complete ID3v1 tags but only for use with my Rio Karma. I use foobar to rename my MP3's to [Artist] - [Abbr.of Album] [Tracknumber] - [Title].

I have Winamp set to just show file name then I do a sort by name which nicely sorts my MP3's by artist, then album then track number so I can easily play any album in the correct order. I don't use media library.

So, i want to sort out all my mp3's into folders as well. And still get everything in one big playlist.

I want to sort them at their beginning letter, like A, B, C, D, # .....

But, if i add or delete songs from those folders... I'd have to make a whole new playlist right?! Then i'd have to select all the folders in the playlist editor one by one?

Or how do you do that?

If you use the Media Library, you can just have it rescan your folders, instead of creating new playlists every time files are added or deleted.
