that's it. It seems that Winamp 5 should associate .wal's with itself, and dropping a skin file on Winamp should install and activate the skin.

.wsz support is still there from wa2, i assume, but .wal's just go into the playlist when dropped on winamp.

is this possible? i can see that it might be difficult given that modern skins are implemented through a general purpose plugin. can gen_ plugins add to the DD and file association lists?

On my computer, a wal file works like a wsz file. Uninstal Winamp3, re-install Winamp 5, and it should take care of itself.

Other option is going into
Windows Explorer>Tools Folder Options>File Types>>WAL>Advanced>"install">edit; should have as value:
"D:\Program Files\Winamp\Winamp.exe" "%1"

well, i can't uninstall wasabi.player (my sig isn't what it is for nothing... ;) ), but i installed Winamp 5 after w.p. seems like that should do the trick.

may go with the File Types trick. dunno. hadn't thought of it though. thx.

how 'bout drag and drop? as i recall, DD-ing a wsz installs and changes to a skin, and seems like wal's should work the same way. any info there?

You could change the extensions to wsz and the skins would associate with Winamp 5, while the Wasabi Player can continue to claim the wal files.
