Hey everybody,

Yes, it's this time of the year again, the nominations have been revealed and the Academy awards will be given out February 29. I'd like to hear your opinion about the nominations and the awards in general so I start a couple of threads where you can play th eacademy and vote for your favorite movie/actor... in a poll or tell us which should have been nominated but wasn't, I hope this will bring a little more life in this movie forum!

So, we start off with the best picture category, which probably interest most of you, tell us your opinion on who should (or should definitely not) win! You could also give your estimation on who will most likely win (it doesn't have to be the same as your favorite), have fun!

If you want to find out more about the nominated movies, here are the movie homepages:

Lord of the Rings - Return of the King (http://www.lordoftherings.net/)
Lost in translation (http://www.lost-in-translation.com/)
Master and Commander - The far side of the World (http://www.masterandcommanderthefarsideoftheworld.com/)
Mystic River (http://mysticrivermovie.warnerbros.com/index.php?deeplink=epk_downloads)
Seabiscuit (http://www.seabiscuitmovie.com/)

Haven't seen it yet (or any of those in fact) but I'm voting LOTR on principle.

I only saw one, so I won't vote. I can't vote on films I haven't seen; unlike a lot of people who will vote.

I've seen two of those movies. Master and Commander - The far side of the World and Lord of the Rings - Return of the King. Both were very good. But me being a LOTR fan I voted for Return of the King.
Funny to see that all the votes lean towords it.:)

Without any doubt, LOTR will be awarded, but frankly, I think that the three movies were "decent".. and only "decent".
In my opinion, the Return Of The King was slow and sometimes even boring.. Ok, there were good special FX, but it's not enough to make a good movie.

To me, the adaptation didn't do justice to the books, but I agree, still the "spirit" of Tolkien's stories was there.

They were a good entertainment, nothing more.

I voted for Lost in Translation.

I've only seen ROTK and Lost In Translation. I found LIT much more entertaining.

Mystic River sounds like it should be very good and it's on my short-list of to-see movies.

I can't imagine Master n Commander or Seabiscuit winning (even I haven't seen either)

My vote went to Lost in Translation. I wonderful film that surpised me.

RTOK was okay, but not a film that I think deserves to be considered as best film.

I have seen Lord of the Rings, Master and Commander and Mystic River which were all good movies but out of those I'd have to go for Lord of the rings since I'm not really a fan of movies with boats and Mystic River was more of an awesome TV movie than a movie theater piece, still great acting was going on in there...I will not give my vote until I have seen lost in translation though, all of my friends who have already seen it said that it was a truly great movie - I already went to see it but it was sold out although I was 45 minutes too early - might say something about the movie's quality?
But I'm definitely not going to see seabiscuit since from the trailer I highly doubt that I will like this kind of movie.

The majority's descision is right this time, the Oscar for best picture went to LOTR, probably also to honor the trilogy as a whole...the movie has gotten 11 Academy awards altogether, you guys got what you wanted (most of you anyway) :D
