View Full Version : Remote control via Winamp UI

Hi,

Very certain that this will never happen, but I would love it if it does;

Would it be possible to write into winamp the ability to remotely control winamp via the winamp GUI?

i.e. If I DJ a party, I have to transfer all my settings for crossfading etc to the other side of the house, and then recreate all the playlists with the files across the LAN network. As a result, I have to spend all my time preparing music and getting my collection organized the few hours before everything kicks off and I can't generate favorite playlists days or weeks beforehand (The computer that we broadcast through is not mine)

I have looked into setting up a shoutcast server, but can't seem to get that to work with the new winamp 5 and I really prefer to use it.

So, the question is, would it be possible to connect winamp as a "GHOST" client to another player? With everything looking the same, functioning the same, just across a LAN or the net?

a rough fix to that if you *needed* to do that right now would be to share winamp through netmeeting.

i believe this is how you could do it:

on the remote computer you want to control, open netmeeting and create a meeting (host a call). set netmeeting to automatically accept all calls, and if you feel it's nessicary, set a password.start the application sharing and share winamp 5 (or the whole desktop if you are so inclined) and make sure to allow control of it.

on the computer where you want to control it, call to the ip of that computer, and join the meeting then from there you should be able to take control of winamp.

if anyone knows better, please correct me if i got anything wrong.
