Strange CPU usage

Did you look at your cpu usage while live encoding on XP, pentium 4Ghz.

A strange thing happen :
I start live encoding, for 1 minute it use 20% of CPU, an after 1 or 2 inutes it grows to 80% and stay at 80% !
All this for no reason !
Any idea ?
