microphone mixer settings

looking for recommendations on mic mixer settings in shoutcast. I found a thread where a guy had said:

On the Shoutcast source Input tab it IS set to Soundcard Input/Microphone. Music levels do toggle when I press talk and are set at -6/-20. Mic volume is set to 0dbs (max).

Which I've gone with (yet to get feedback on how well that sounds). Are there any recommended values?

Each microphone and soundcard varies. Set it up and ask a friend (or someone at the forums) to listen in and give volume and sound suggestions.

(spec is Creative Audigy 1 with winamp 5 and shoutcast DSP 1.9.2
PC spec - don;t think this will make much difference - XP2400+, 768 RAM, 1mbit cable)
