hey...newbie question here.
im starting from scratch, finding out about this, even not sure if it'll do what i need it to. but it seems like this is the application.

we want to stream music internally, inside our small company, to 30 or so users over our T1 line from a central source.

I just installed:
1. the shoutcast DNAS server
2. winamp
3. the shoutcast plugin for winamp

on a windows 98 box, connected to our network, and the internet.

i have the dnas server configured, largely with the default settings. i had to change the portbase to an active socket, and, of course, the password.

i configured the plugin for winamp, matching the port and username. and so far, it APPEARS as if the thing is working. winamp is pumping music, and the dnas server seems to be getting a signal.

however,
im not able to connect to what i have streaming from another computer. the output setting in the winamp plugin was set to "localhost." i tried changing that to the IP of the computer (which, i assume was the setting i got when i typed "ipconfig" in the cmd prompt.....the ethernet card's IP)

ive tried putting that address into winamp on another machine to see if i could connect. of course, i coudlnt. im not sure, from this point, what to do to access the signal that i appear to be broadcasting.

also, ever so often, in between what appears to be a successful broadcast, i receive this message:

<03/26/04@13:55:37> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 216.158.2.70:1029) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out))

whats that about?

it seems to appear largely when i have it set to connect to the "yellowpages."
TECHNICALLY, i dont even want to broadcast to the whole world, just the internal office environment. so im not sure if its neessary to use this setting or not.
but if i dont publish this broadcast, how do i pick it up from the other computers in the office?

im learning as i go, here. im not any it professional, and i dont understand networking a whole lot. but if there are critical pieces of this puzzle that im missing, i'd sure appreciate ay advice.
thanks!
matt

If the SHOUTcast DNAS (server) and DSP/WinAmp combo are on the same machine, put localhost into the address box in the DSP.

-----

If you want someone to connect within the same LAN:

Link using this format: http://yourIP:yourPORT/listen.pls

Replace "yourIP" with the LAN IP for the machine hosting the server and "yourPORT" with your portbase as defined by your DNAS (server) config file. The default is 8000.

-----

If you plan to only stream within the network, make your DNAS private and you will stop receiving this error message. You can do this by going in the DSP > Output tab > Yellowpages > Uncheck "Make This Server Public".
