View Full Version : Sorting titles and ignoring "the"

It is very nice that the Media Library can ignore the word "the" when sorting artist names, but the playlist still can't. I use the playlist's sort function (Misc>Sort>Sort list by name) because of how I use the Advanced Title Formating to organize my files. This is my string: [%artist% - ][%year%, ][$cut(%album%,41), ][$num(%tracknumber%,2), ]$if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%)). Is there a plugin, and if not I'd like to request it, that allows the playlist to ignore the word "the"?
Thanks,
Patrick

I clean up all.
Such as, no "The's". No The Beatles. Beatles.
Is this what you mean?

Yea, as in "The Beatles" being where they would be in the playlist if they were just "Beatles". A good part of my playlist starts with "The", and that's silly. I understand I could change all the names, but that's part of the band's name as much as anything.

No, it doesn't. Why would it?
Anyone who wants to leave "The", just makes for more looking.

Sure, in the Media Library, I was hoping this ability could be extended to the Playlist as well.

maybe they will add it in when they allow you to turn it off in the media library
i personally dislike it, and it just makes things confusing when its not the same in both.

well aren't you able to send the playlist to the ML and sort it there then place it back in the PL?
Personly I agree with you, I think the Playlist should be a part of the media Library.
I think that the playlist should be one of the playlists in the Media Library but one you delete, move nor rename, etc.
I think I said this before and I'm hopping Dr O get's arround to somthing like this in his Extended Playlist Plugin.

The reason I can't do that is because I still can't organize the Media Library the way I would like to. I like having it organized by Artist, then Date, Album, Track, and then Title, which I can do with the Advanced Title Formating, but that means sorting with the Playlist and not the Media Library.
