Hi,

I was wondering if someone could point me to a good site on the history of internet radio. I'm looking for technical stuff: codecs & players etc. as well as early stations and dates.

Also any information on (preferibly early) internet radiophonic works would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

/Steven

Ha, my guess is that intenet radio would have become popular around 1996 (28k modems) sounds about right?! haha.

As of yet, http://www.kunstradio.at/: an experimental station which has its internet broadcasts archived back to 1995 is the longest running station I know of.

farthest back i can think of would be 98. i remember cuz i used to always go up and use the computers at the public library. that time all they had was ISDN and about 4 net connected computers. that time the local country music station had their broadcast online via realaudio. i would always listen to that while surfing. now thanks to the R I double f'r A they had to take the internet stream offline cuz they couldnt handle the costs of internet streaming. id say this was probabaly somewhere around 2000, '01 or somewhere around then. and i know this cuz i talked to one of their top DJ's personally about the issue. and he completely agreed too. the RIAA should be shot.

anyhow, that may not be of much use, but its some info reguarding your question.
