View Full Version : Some ideas I thought up..

Being a bum college student isn't the funnest job around.. sometimes I like to turn Winamp on random and fall asleep.. therein lies the problem of a song that doesn't exactly put you to sleep coming on.. so I thought up three ideas. The first doesn't really have anything to do with the above statement.
The first is just a sleep timer. Very simple, either allow Winamp to play for a certain amount of time and then pause/stop, or just kill winamp.exe, the latter probably being the better choice.
The second is for playlists.. the ability to go in order for an X number amount of songs, then automatically switch to random.
The third idea is probably my most favorite so far, it's a crop filter.. basically, say you want a rock song, go to crop, select new filter, name your filter, and add names to the list.. Winamp will then scan the artist of all the files and remove any that you don't list.. example, you want to go to sleep.. you type in crop, type in sleep mix, add in something like "Norah Jones, Michelle Branch, Sarah McLachlan", etc, you get the point, and it'll crop out every mp3 that isn't by the artist(s) you listed..
feedback?

1. Plug-in Search: Sleep (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.php?search=yes&filter=C&query=Sleep)
2. Already can with the full version (including Jump to File Extra). Select the next track you want to play and press 'Q' (or Alt-Click), repeat for X. It will play the next X tracks in order even with shuffle on.
3. Use the Media Library, that's what it is there for..
in the ML search:
?artist is "Norah Jones" || artist is "Michelle Branch" || artist is "Sarah McLachlan"
Or even will work:
* Norah Branch McLachlan

Oh. Well, then. What's this about the ML?

Media Library. Been included ever since Winamp 2.90. It manages your media and allows you to search and sort through it. So you don't have to use your playlist to hold everything. That is just inefficient.

What about a drop-down menu in the playlist with all the music genres in it, select one and winamp reads the genre section in the tracks 1d3 tag and filters out all the files that dont match. It would be a pain to have to go through all your music and update the tags, but it would work.

from the sleeper that already exists, i found that everytime you run winamp again, the same option is still active. For example, i chose 'on the end of queue - shutdown'. and wen i loaded winamp again, the option was still active, so it would shut the computer down once the enqueued list was complete.
i think it would be a good idea to have an option so that you can choose for the sleep option to be memorized.
forgive me if this already exists, i've read thru the whole forum (i think) and couldn't find anything on that subject.

ok, i set winamp to shutdown the computer once the enqueued songs are over, it does that fine.
i put the computer back on, enqueue some songs to play, but once that list is finished, the computer shuts down (but i didn't want it to, nor did i ask it to).
The first time this happenend, i never realised that winamp would remember my decision to shut the computer down once the enqueued songs have finished.

makes sense now (was reading your post far to late at night)
i'll be adding in an option when i work on the code again to allow the mode to either persist or be once only
