I recently downloaded the Warez P2P software to see if it was like Kazaa. After realizing it sucks, I uninstalled it cleanly. But there was a "Startnow" companion toolbar that came with it, and I also uninstalled that.

However, it skinned my XP shell, as you can see in the picture and I was wondering how to get it back to normal, or just undo what Startnow did.

That won't fix my shell though, it only removes Startnow completly.

Does anyone know how to switch the shell back

I don't really understand what you mean.

That picture shows the startnow BHO which should get removed by adaware.

If it doesn't try Spybot S&D or Spywareblaster.

Or Firefox :p

next time read what you instal completely. I downloaded warezp2p and didn't instal any of the extras :)

I like the program though, idk why you didn't. To each their own. :)

What I mean is, you can modify your WinXP shell (how it looks). When Startnow was installed, it modified the shell, but when it was uninstalled, it doesn't put it back to the original look.

All the Startnow stuff is gone, I just need to get the shell back to normal, you can see in the picture it has kind of a brown to white blend. You most likely do not need a program to do this, I just can't figure out where you go to modify this.

It wasn't a bad program, there just wasn't anything special about it. I'll stick with Kazaa Lite..

Can you check if there's a new visual style installed?

If there isn't then go to C:\windows\resources\themes\Luna\shell\metallic
maybe it has created a backup of the original shellstyle.dll

If not then I could post the original, but check whether the other shellstyles have been altered as well.

Erm, swich to a better browser quickly.

It would be for you own good.

Mozila, Opra, Netscape (A more n00bie frendly version of Mozila) are all viable options.

Just a thought.

Yes, maybe it's using a custom toolbar background.

Here's the shellstyle. Either this or TweakUI should fix it.

Do a system restore to a point before the Warez p2p software was installed. Back up anything that you need that was installed/downloaded etc from the time your rolling back to up to now.
