hi,
the problem is related to clean 5.03 release install, running on ac97 onboard card, on a p3 500mhz machine,
directx 8.1. 128MB SDRAm

at the start of winamp it takes around 3Mb of memory, then as the app continues playing, the amt of memory occupied by the app keep increasing and at the end (say abt one hour) it will stabilize at 15M or so..since i can not tolerate loosing so much memory i have to shutdown the app and then run it again....

is there a way out of this problem. usual tweaking with directsound etc. have not helped as yet.

God forbid that Winamp should be using a massive 15mb memory ;)
Though, to be honest, 128mb RAM is simply not enough these days.

Have you installed the 5.03 Update Patch (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=179096) yet?
(fixes a couple of memory issues with in_mp3 and in_cdda)

What file types are you playing?

Which skin are you using?
(modern skins are not recommended on your system)

Does the memory usage drop when you minimize Winamp?

What's your Windows OS?

Any reason for not updating DirectX to v9.0b?

Do you have the latest sound drivers for your onboard sound chip?

Which Output plugin are you using?
WaveOut or DirectSound (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=1212926#post1212926)?

Does the chip support hardware acceleration?

+ Installing the 5.03 update now.
+ only mp3's
+ I have been using modern skins.. kind of liked the transparency fetaure...;) now back to classsics.
+ not sure abt mem drop on minimizing ..actually most of the time when i checked the mem usage winamp had been minimized, i keep it in the system tray.. but will explicity check this thing and let you know..
+ win2k SP4
+ This is my offcie Pc and development env specifies the use of DX8.1 (another reason for 128MB, at home i have 512 ;) )
+ DirectSound
+ No it does not.

Will get back to you after testing the changes that i have made.
