I think I read somewhere on the boards that a delay is to be expected, but I'd be ecstatic to get something like 8 seconds.

3 minutes is way too long.

With the first atttempt for a shoutcast stream yesterday from my personal computer at home, a single 24Kb stream was reaching a friend a full 1 minute and 30 seconds later.

What is the cause of the delay, anyway? I thought the broacaster and receiver systems are making a direct connection. Is it the time the server software needs to process and send out the stream?

I was using a 2.6GHz system with 512MB main memory. I guess this would be more than enough for this type of processing.

If anyone knows how to minimize the delay I'd also appreciate the help.

maybe it just takes time for it to find the "perfect" route to be relayed, my station had a 1min 30sec delay when i first started out, now it's reduced to 30-40 sec. it just might need some time to get used to. toy with it some more
