Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone knew what legal issues affect talk radio - i mean radio without music; just chat, jingles and a few commercials.

Obviously you don't have to pay music 'rights', but as you are strictly 'performing', is there anything we need to look at?

Obviously all the material would be ours; we wouldn't be reading a novel or anything like that...

you are good to go, there are no restrictions for broadcasting your own content. You even have more freedom then terra-broadcasters as you have no FCC or other governing body regulating what you do.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but all we'd need to pay for is the server to 'host' the stream?

PS I'm in the UK... does that change anything?

it shouldn't, you can check your local laws but I doubt that they govern the internet. If you can host it on a website then you can do the same in a stream.

Yes, your only costs will be hosting.

I run a talk radio station currently and KXRM's correct.
I've never run into legal issues with my stream. Even though we get pretty rough sometimes, we have a disclaimer before our show saying the content may not be suitable for bla bla bla, but even then it's not needed, as he mentioned, the internet isn't controlled by anyone.
