Is there a way I can broadcast what is playing on one of my computers over my home network. I want to be able to have the same song on I each room when i host a party. I wanted to be able to shuffle songs and change songs so just playing the same playlists on each computer dosn't work.

Can I limit Shoutcast to my home network? Do I have to give up my Winamp 5?

You play shoutcast streams on your fav media player - so winamp5 can stay!!!

As for limiting, yes.. just set it to use an internal IP (192.168.1.X) (x = what not inuse already!)

Is there something i need to configure on my firewall to make this work - i have used a number of unused IP on my network and Scoutcast can't connect? Thanks for all the help.

Actually what you want to do is 'Add URL' in Winamp and input _either_ the IP address of the machine that is running Shoutcast or input the name of the machine that is running Shoutcast with :8000 added to the end of the URL.

ex: I have Shoutcast running on my desktop but I am lounging in the back yard with my laptop while drinking a GuinnessĀ®. I would input a) the IP of my desktop as http://192.168.1.100:8000 or b) the machine name as http://Solarius:8000

If that does not work make sure that Winamp _and_ the Shoutcast server are both running on your machine. You will have to go into the Preferences section of Winamp -> Plugins -> DSP Effect and select the Shoutcast plugin if you have not done so.

Good luck and have fun!

If you don't need to broadcast, and you only want to share media across the lan, I'd recommend (biased) my WombatShare plugin : http:\\www.wombatinvasion.com .. If you have problems with this I can solve em because I know eactly how it works,I'm not 100% on the tech behind shoutcast :)

Does anyone have some step-by-step instructions on how to set this thing up. I seem to be doing everything correctly, but I can't make a connection. I want to broadcast live music from my laptop over my wireless lan to the computer in my media room. Please help.

SHoutcast can be tricky and although very powerful and useful for streaming media across the internet to multiple users. For simplicity in your case I would seriously recommend WombatShare. You just install the plugin on your laptop and your media room machine and winamp on the media room machine will be able to see all the music thats on the laptop. No conifugration, integrated straight into the media library.

Can WombatShare stream live music? The problem I am trying to solve is when I throw house parties I have to limit the mucic to the media room because I have DJ equipment in there. I would like to set up my laptop so I could use it to stream the music to all the rooms of my house and be able to mobily control the music.

Not entirely sure what you want but if you different pcs in each room then shoutcast is ideal for what you want, I think it can use 'multicasting' for doing the streaming. If your speakers are in different rooms and they're all wired into one laptop then yes wombatshare would work fine for you :)

Jut to let you know, shoutcast would NOT be ideal for broadcasting on multiple computers over your LAN. Shoutcast has odd delays (not really odd) but when you connect from each computer, they are going to have different delaytimes, so the music will be off timed in each room.

Does shoutcast not support multicasting at all? This problem keeps getting asked all over the place ;)

Not sure what that means, however, many computers can connect to the same stream over the LAN, the timings will all be different though.

Multicasting is where they all belong to the same network group, it would remove any delay issues, as opposed to multiple computers connecting to the same streaming source... I was under the impression that shoutcast could do this ?..pr'haps not..

No when i play the streams from on my network on dif comps, they are at different places in the songs

This link looks like it should explain how to get shoutcast working with multicast, which would be sweet, not used it myself (obviously as I have my own sharing 'solution' ;) )
