View Full Version : Ever forget to tip?

Goddamn...I ordered some Papa Johns to my house just recently, but I forgot to tip the delivery person...I was supposed to give them a dollar from the change, but they arrived faster than they said they would, and I was just taken off-guard and totally forgot to tip them...

Then again, I don't order out much myself...If anyone calls, it's usually my mom or dad...Hell, it's actually more like anyone but me... ;)

I hope Papa Johns doesn't black-list me for a buck... :p

I never tip.

The papa john's deliver drivers get paid pretty decent... but I never forget to tip. I got really stoned and accidently tipped a delivery guy 10 bucks once... Bout as much as I paid for the pizza.

I was once "caught off guard" by a delivery person.
I felt awful cause they couldn't change what I had!
I always tip. And very well, too.
I like that about me!:)

I usually tip the pizza guy. How much I tip depends on how I pay. If I pay cash I usually give anywhere from $3-5 depending on how fast the guy gets there. If I put it on the credit card I will tip around $2. If I pay by check I don't tip because I am completely broke and probably don't have the money in the bank to cover the pizza (but I know I will have the money by the time the check gets cashed) so I 'forget' to tip.

I usually get the same pizza guy (is it sad when they know you by name?) He is fast too, the pizza is usually to my house in 10-25 minutes.

Why do you tip these people? I do not understand why people tip waiters and people who are essentialy doing a job that they are already paid for. Do you rush out to tip the postman every morning?

MidnightViper88
29th May 2004, 23:54
I don't even worry about tipping with I'm out...I pay attention and pay when the check comes, but when we leave, tipping is the last thing that comes to mind as if it's completly forgotten...

When I'm with my dad at Hooters, though, tipping is different... ;)

Most get dismal wages and make more off tips than actual paychecks.

Eves-dropping into some of my classmate's conversations ( ), I overhear some of them who work at resturaunts talking about how they make alot of their money from tips...

"I'm very sorry the government taxes their tips, that's fucked up. That ain't my fault. It would seem to me that waitresses are one of the many groups the government fucks in the ass on a regular basis. Look, if you ask me to sign something that says the governemnt shouldn't do that, I'll sign it, put it to a vote, I'll vote for it, but what I won't do is play ball. And as for this non-college bullshit I got two words for that: learn to fuckin' type, 'cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent you're in for a big fuckin' surprise."

waiters get paid about 2 bucks an hour. but including taxes and everything sometimes their official pay checks are $0.

One of the few times I disagree with your thinking.
They don't get paid THAT well.
Take a pizza guy for instance:
-Wear and Tear on personal vehicle.
-Insurance on said vehicle.
-Wearing the gay pirate uniform ie. Fast Times at Ridgemont High
-Dealing with idiots that don't tip.

My ex-wife was a waitress when we met and the government wasn't the only one fucking her in the ass on a regular basis.

Seriously, not everyone is born with a silver spoon in their mouth, nancy.

I always tip... usually over tip. There was one time when I was like 21 that I didn't. I took a girl to a bar and we had a few drinks and I forgot to leave a tip when we were done. She didn't really like that.

Fickle

I've stolen tips from bars. It's really quite easy, and you don't feel much shame if it's an asshole bartend who fucked up the drink you bought a chick, and then took over 20 minutes to pick up that you've been out of beer.
Plus when they leave the tip there for longer than twenty minutes it's fair fucking game.

I admire that fickle.
really

ElChevelle

Actually, having bartended while managing the bar at the ski area, it's understandable sometimes.
You get busy, shit happens.
I did fire a bartender for not refilling our beers while he was hitting on a chick at the other end of the bar though.

in the US, the minimum wage is lower for people in jobs where they can earn a significant amount from tips. it's part of their culture to tip, unlike ours (where the workers tend to just get paid more, and tipping is seen very much as a bonus).

try that in my work, and i'll whup your ass into the middle of next week. :)

when you say "leave the tip there" i assume you mean on the bar, in which case it's pretty much fair game, ya, though.

I used to be a waitress, and my wages were shit. Tipping in the US is our main wages, and yes, some make a lot that way. I always start out with $5, then add or subtract according to the service. In a bar, it's usually a dollar or two per drink.

It's different in the UK, service staff get paid more and tips aren't always expected but are a bonus when they get them. I tip when I get good service but if service has been slow or bad in another way I might not (or just a small tip). Just a different culture I suppose.

I tip a little extra to make up for the people who stiff
bartenders and the waitress or waiter....
I like that about me! :D

I tipped a waitress the other really well for being sociable. In front of my friends, she asked if I needed a box for the rest of my breakfast burrito that I couldn't finish.
When I replied yes, she quipped "Your not man enough huh?"
Too which I replied while my friends laughed, "I can prove that I am?"

She gave me a wink and a smile then walked away:D

there's no real need in the UK. i typically don't, except maybe at the end of the night. it's pretty much more than i can afford.

it's always nice to get a tip though - although girls tend to get tipped a lot from sleazy guys, when guys get tipped (particularly geeky ones like me) it seems to show gratitude from the customer - it's like getting a compliment, and that's always nice :)

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/fb/ABEASTG.JPG

My cousin Justin and I went out to the movies with our friends that came into town last night, and then we ate at BW3s afterwards...

Justin and I ordered 12 boneless teriyaki chicken wings and some cheese-covered potatoe chips, and we split that half-and-half...When we got our check, our order was somewhere a little over $12, or something like that...Justin's got this card which tells you how much to tip depending on your order's price, and for what we ordered, we were supposed to put down a tip of $1.70-something...I covered the tip, and originally was going to put $1.50, but I just left the dollar and kept my 50 cents (We didn't leave immediatly after paying, so we had time to dick around some more before our friends had to leave, and figure tips out)...

Our friends had theirs on a separate bill, and it was somewhere close to but under $20, and they left a $2 tip for their check...

Although I don't go to BW3s often, especially on a Saturday night, I just hope I'm not recognized the next time I do eat there again...

God, we're a bunch of cheap bastards... :blah:

I almost always tip. Although, I don't hesitate for a second to not tip when the service is bad.

I have never forgotten to tip, I just never tip, they are getting paid by the company to provide my with an acceptable level of service, why do they need any more?

k_rock923
5th February 2007, 12:20
Because companies by law do not have to pay as much to workers who are expected to get a significant amount of tips.

cooky560

well that's not true over here, my friend used to work at a restaurant and they got paid the same above minimum wage amount regardless of the tips

I always tip unless the server happens to be hostile.
10% for the worst of service, 20% for the best, 15% for somewhere in between.

FYI, loading a cup up with ice so that I have about 2 oz of soft drink (or water) in my 20oz cup is stupid. Failing to check on that cup is even dumber and will immediately earn you the minimum.
I drink like a camel.
