for whatever reason i cannot get winamp to recognize the plugin that is in the plugins directory

it just will not come up under the options window.

i have winamp 5.03a+update patch

no other plugins installed

i would hate to have to reinstall and recreate my media library

I think the "plugin" for r4 just starts an .exe file. So, you can just start it yourself...

Support for third party plug-ins is not provided on the Winamp Forums. Try the R4 Homepage (http://www.rabidhamster.org/R4/main.php) or the Forums (http://www.rabidhamster.org/phpBB2/index.php) for the "R" series visualizations.

JohnnyMac, thank you for the links i already knew about lol

and did i ask for official support? NO

im asking a large group of winamp users who are part of a comunity here.

it is possible that one of these other users might have run into the same problem and found a fix.

anyway if you re-read my post the problem is with winamp itself not reading that the file is there it has nothing to do with the plugin.

and this may not be a support forum for third party plugins but it damn sure is a place to discuss them with each other, especially considering this perticular plugin is being promoted on the front page of this very sites i can talk about it here if i damn well please.

Sure you can, but you're more likely to get better help from the makers of r4 than the users of Winamp.

However, I just obtained r4 1.08 from rabidhamster.org and installed it without trouble. It autodetected my Winamp5 folder and I was able to start it immediately. Are you sure the plugin is installed to the _correct_ winamp folder? In other words, do you perhaps have more than one installation of Winamp (many people do)? And by "options window" are you referring to the visualizations preferences? Ctrl-P>Plugins>Visualizations. Just making sure we're all on the same page.

Hi murassmeblade

Generally support for third party plug-ins is not provided here. However it is possible for someone to give a pointer or two to help you on your way. If you go to the Winamp/Plugins folder do you see the vis_R4.dll file? Maybe it was installed to the wrong folder as Gonzotek suggested.

Did you try your luck in the R4 Bugs/Problems (http://www.rabidhamster.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=10) forum? Any replies? :)

Good Luck!

Fixed typo

Yeah you are more likely to get support on the R4 forums. So if it is still a problem wonder over there and me or Gordon will help you get it sorted.

If winamp does not pick up the plugin (any plugins) refresh the plug-in cache. Confirm that the relevant dll are in the correct location. R4 is a little different to most plugins as it uses a the winamp dll to redirect to the R4 programs/dll's

It is very possible that the installer was wrong in some way as I think by default it will install R4 to program Files/r4 there is a seperate tick box for wa2/wa5.

Try Rovastar‘s suggestion to flush the plug-in cache. Ctrl+P > Plug-ins > click ‘Flush Plug-in Cache’ button.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling R4? Also, it is a good idea to install plug-ins while Winamp is not running. Maybe you have corrupted downloads of R4. Try downloading again. If you have a third party download manager/accelerator temporarily disable it prior to downloading. Download accelerators can sometimes cause more trouble that they are worth.

If Winamp is recognizing other vis plug-ins and not R4, then I don’t think it a problem specifically related to Winamp. Once again good luck. :)
