View Full Version : *WARNING* Watch out for o-u-t-w-a-r.com LINK POPUPS

I had to dash the letters because it was censored...

Basically the users of o-u-t-w-a-r.com (which pushes its users to get people to goto their link) are going to be using shoutcast as their new method. Someone has set up and is distributing the server with settings and instructions to popup their link when you goto the station address - no music what-so-ever. Its catching on very quickly. I was wondering if there is anything that we can do stop this. Usually these people use instant messaging services or link exchanges - and when they find a method it only lasts around a month or two. Be on the lookout, and if you find any servers like this IM me (mattolz) or pm me the ip/link.
Also, if you happen to get redirected to a link, just click the "Report Spammer" link at the right on the page.

Proof of the above can be shown here:

(My username is Matt). I am a moderator for a board on the above forum, but not that one. I will try to talk to the admin to get that post removed. It may not be a problem now, but give it a few weeks, and there will be bad severs everywhere.

We have had a lot of problem with them too, hence it is a censored word.

Users can disable having the Now Playing load from media (including SHOUTcast streams). The next version of Winamp will disable JavaScript and ActiveX (pop-ups and other nasties) by default in the "Now Playing" section of the Media Library.

If they set up the stream for just that purpose then they probably won't have any listeners, so they will be buried in the Directory. If they do it under the Internet TV section they will eventually get their ass (and their class C banned).

YP abuse is fucking annoying, but at least Nullsoft is making an effort to stop it.

Yea, but they are also showing users of that forum how to change their IP after an IP ban...And the amount of hits they get is unfortunatly high because they claim to have porn on thier server.

Thanks Matt. I've made Tom Pepper aware of the problem and solutions on such problems as well as others are being discussed.
