i, Robot and The Matrix?

Just saw the trailer and well, is it meant to be the same as how the matrix war started, with B166ER? Hell, the trailer even had the same music as The Matrix Revolutions. Too much of a coincidence.

i,robot was written by the great Issac Asimov many years ago, the matrix ripped off plenty of ideas from it, and from what I've read of this film version they basically took one plot point from the book along with the title and junked the rest of it to tell a will smith friendly special effects bonaza.

The fact that the writing credits on the movie list Asimov's writing credit as 'suggested by book', should speak volumes.

Do yourself a favour, spend any money you might have spent on a ticket for this film, and go buy the book version you will enjoy it a thousand times more than the film.

From what I've seen of the movie trailer, it has little if anything to do with the book.
Robots, from what I recall don't go bezerk in the book.

The Idea sounds awsome, and based on your reccomendation, I might buy the book just for the read. I'm into stuff like that. However, It looks like they totally fucked up the movie. They threw in will smith, and a bunch of horrible, Crappily scripted action. I hate movies like that, and unfortunately for me, this type of garbage makes up 70% of all new movies.

I'm not that big of a fan of Will Smith, mainly because of Men in Black. Although, his films are getting better and better funded. The effects in this "I, Robot" are looking good.

The movie has nothing to do with the books I think. It was written as just a robot movie but they decided to hook it with I, Robot to make it more marketable. Then they rewrote it to add stuff in from the books.

I have not read I, Robot yet. I have read other Asimov books and they are great though! The Foundation Trilogy was kick ass!

I dont mean the design. The design is great! I'm saying the special effects. They dont look realistic. Its like a video, with some CG mixed in. Get what I am saying? Its not like in LotR where Gollum and stuff look very nice and real. You can believe he is a character. From the trailers it looks like they did a bad job of that in this movie. I wasnt saying the design is fake, course its fake, its a scifi movie. I'm saying the CGI work on them is bad.

This thread is so synical. Someone one asked if anyone else felt their was an uncanny resemblance between i.Robot and The Matrix and others comment on how society will flail because stupid people exist. Stupid people have always exist.

Regardless of that, I welcome this movie because I am a Will Smith fan and I like action movies. I enjoyed bicentanial man. I enjoyed the matrix. I enjoyed Terminator. I will probably enjoy this man vs machine brawler also. Please don't bash the movie before it comes out. Never judge a book by its cover.

I agree that some action films shouldn't be judged based on classic-book standards. However, if you're going to make an action movie, don't base it on a philosophical book! Honestly, this movie would have been better if it hadn't tried to lamely tie in some kind of literary class. We don't watch action films for social commentary, or read philosophical novels to see cars blow up and hear trademark phrases from celebrities.

((Off topic: The LOTR movies were great, but completely failed to translate the indescribable long-ago-legend aura that Tolkein wrote the books to create. Reading that series once again after seeing the movies, I'm aware of a deep melancholy that pervades the series, cushioned by a kind of warm comfort that seems to radiate from the likes of Tom Bombadil, Gandalf (grey, not white) and the unconscionably old yet quite youthful Elvish folk. If you actually read more than just these books, like the Silmarillion or whatever else, you come to realize that in that universe, all the great and terribly powerful or virtuous entities have long since passed from Middle-Earth, and out of the stories.

Battlefield Earth sucked compared to the book.

I made up a conspiracy theory with my boyfriend that the movie was most likely sponsored by Microsoft - the title I,Robot is just perfect for it since it resembles products like iPOD, iMac etc...and just look at the robots, they sure look like something Apple would come up with:
