i was used to this error message when I was connected through a router. now I am connected directly to the modem, and I still get this error. since my router isn't connected, i can't access the setup utility where I can forward the ports 8000, 8001.

any help is appreciated

try to clear your internet cache, and if you are on a network , try to disable internet sharing. it isn't always the firewall that gives this error.
