Photoshop. Something I have never really known how to use it, and I think it's about time I learn. A few problems:

1: I havent found ANY good tutorials for a person that HAS ZERO EXPERIENCE WITH PHOTOSHOP. As in, I dont even know what most of these tools do. Most Tutorials I have looked at show you "Techniques", and "tricks", but I dont need that! I need a FULL FLEDGED tutorial, that starts from introducing tools, to how to get the perfect textures you want. I need help!

2: I dont have photoshop 7, and that's what most of these tutorials are directed towards. Does anyone know where I can possibly get a trial version of this? I have only have photoshop 6.

I would appreciate any help :)

Well, after a couple of days of messing around with photoshop, I now unveil my VERY FIRST OK looking, random object that I couldnt have made but a mere 3 days ago! (made in photoshop 7.0 might I add :) )

edit: Yea, the middle circle is supposed to be a circle... i dont know how it got jagged. I had used a marqee tool, and just colored it in...

If ya made the white part an irregular eliptical shape it would look like a raw egg.
Cool.

Say, I have a question... Since I was taught to Use the Marquee tool to make shapes (make the shape, right click and hit "Fill"), How am I supposed to give marqueed shapes an outline?

Heh, I messed around with it while I waited for you to reply, and I had done exactly that :).

What tutorial shows you how to make that? (I'm currently learning photoshop effects also) ;)

none. I just looked up a tutorial a while ago that showed me how to shine glass... I came up with the rest on my own. I had just messed around with the layer style to get the back grey part. If you want an in-detail desciption of what I did, just ask :)

edit: here's a tutorial that would produce something similar:

make sure your gradient goes from white (#FFFFFF) to transparent.

Uhm, how do I make the second color trasparent?

I can't remember the proper way to do it, but what I always do is:

The first two preset gradients in the list are the Foreground/Background colour you currently have selected, and the Foreground colour/Transparent. So I just click white, then choose the Foreground/Transparent gradient. Same with any other colour you want. Transparent is the grey/white checkerboard looking colour, btw.

hey, I have a question: how would you give flat, rectangular glass panels that glassy reflection? I know how to do it with globes, but the circle shine doesnt work with square glass. A rectangular shine doesnt seem to really work either.

I think you go diagonally, with a bit of a concave curve

Yea, that seems to work

Here's something that i just made... it took me surprisingly long though.
...and I dont know how to add that glow around the flame (like it was in a dark room) :(.

Oh well. (does anyone know how I could do it?)

Anyway, here's my second "creation" :)

oh yea: yea, I made the flame from scratch :)

Edit: I got rid of the line on the candle base-area, but I dont want to upload it again (i dont want to make a whole nother post for a small line deletion.)

In my own personal opinion, you guys use too much filters and layer effects. That, to me, isn't really doing much.

squak, it looks like when you made that "orb" type thing, you used the contract selection tool. For some reason, Photoshop doesn't contract circles perfectly, so I (and some others may or may not) can see corners on the inside circles of the orb (the yellow part). It's sometimes better to duplicate the base layer and free transform it to get a perfect circle selection for whatever effect you're doing.

Well it's not like I'm creating anything definite, I'm just messing around and going through a bunch of tutorials.
