If you ahve a server run on your computer, how do you let other people see it?
I know it has something to do with an IP.. but what?

Chrono is a buddy trying to help me set up a radio thing. I am trying to discover exactly what to do. I own a server, but what I am planning on doing is creating a domain, like ___radio.com etc. and having 'DJs' broadcast their voice and music... I know one person who has done this, but I haven't been able to get in touch with them just yet. I am suspecting i will have to upload something to the server, then connect the DJ's to that server or something or another. If somebody could please help me, I'd greatly appriciate it.
For other means of contact other then replying, I will be avalible until around midnightEST 6AM GMT

No upload is necessary if you want the DJ to use your server. All they have to do is install winamp/dsp combo, configure it with your address and port. they log into your DNAS page you provide them with your password so they can log into the admin area. They kick you as the source, they start streaming their winamp/dsp combo. simple

See, I don't understand how to do that exactly... You can call me a dumbass all you want lol

You have the Shoutcast server up and running correct? As long as the domain name is pointing to the server that you have the shoutcast running off of you can do something like http://www.____radio.com:8000/listen.pls and people can listen in directly. Now if you're going to just use that domain as a link to your radio station I would suggest putting an index.php in the account with this line of code.
Then when they visit just your domain http://www.____radio.com it will automatically kick them into the audio stream.
Now as far as other people dialing into your server to DJ, all you have to do is give them the address to connect to and the password and they can go ahead and stream over whatever they want.

So.. How do you upload shoutcast onto the server, and what do you upload?

You guys don't even have the server set up yet? You need to have a dedicated server (or a server in which you have root access to). Then you need to wget the .tar.gz file and untar it. Then configure the sc_serv.conf and start up the server.

Well, I sorta get that.
I want to have something like that (FYI, it is down right now lol) but, they have a webpage, but then you can open it with like, realplayer's browser, click on the winamp buttom etc. and listen to it live, then run around the website etc. that is what i want. I want people to do that etc while still having a full site with news, links, and all that crud xD
I am really stupid, so this is what I am getting
1) Install the Server Files on my computer
2) Connect the Server deal to my winamp
3) Set the config file to go to my domain and server hosting it (How/Where?)
4) Put a php include to somewhere, and they will click the links and make it work?
Hell, is there a easier radio thing out there?? lol

unless you have shell access to your web host, you can't. oops you own your own server? do a search for "telnet ssh"
18th August 2004, 02:36
Well... This is the situation. I own a server, yes, But- I do share it with a buddy, so What I rather do, to not stir up a situation, is just set up a hosting acccount in the servers cpanel, and then host the domain ___radio.com - just like the average domain, and i need to know what to do... And i'm like, computer smart, but, this is big words and confusing sentences, so i'm not catching along what to do. If somebody could get on msn, and walk me through this, that would be wonderful! Or, let me know of anotehr radio deal which is a bit more easy to understand...

If you do not want to host on your own PC, then check out a 3rd party host. You will pay per listener slot at a specific bit rate. Sound like this would be the easiest option for you. check for hosts here (http://www.radiotoolbox.com/hosts/)

But, this is Free - I want a free one. But no no no - I already have the host etc., I just don't get what to do, since habboairwave.ca is hosted through pinch penny, i want to do that they are doing somehow, I do not think it's hosted through their PC, since they use multiple DJ's, if you were doing that, could you disconnect hosting from one DJ, and the next DJ would host??
18th August 2004, 02:47
I mean, i already have the host - because i would host it off my server
18th August 2004, 02:47
yep, anyone with the admin password can log into the DNAS page and "kick" the current source and begin streaming to that remote server.
18th August 2004, 02:49
Oh, Ok. Then I guess that is how I would do it. Now, I just need to figure out how to make the url ___radio.com i need to discover how to make it all work o.O

So lets say you kick the source. Do your bit. And then sign off. Will the other source keep trying to connect while you're DJing and then continue streaming after that?

medicjoe95.. Please don't blatantly bump your thread. We're unpaid volunteers.
HypnoticVisions.. Yes, if "Automatic Connection on Connection Failure" is checked in the Output tab of the original DSP.
