I like rating all my songs, but unfortunately its a chore in Winamp compared to iTunes ;)
It would be pretty cool to have a plugin put an icon in the tray so songs could be rated quickly and easily.
It could be sort of like the Windows volume contol. Click it once, and the little slider pops up, and you can choose between 0 and 5 stars.
Would be a pretty cool plugin or feature :eek:

toaster.. it adds hotkeys for ratings (ctrl alt 1, or whatever you want for 1 star)
it also pops up a little screen at song change, and the scroll wheel can change ratings...

You can also bind global hotkeys to song ratings.

you are right, i forgot that they added that(and an option to rate from the playlist) in to winamp without toaster or playlist rate

Jeez, what more do you want? Blood? ;)
In Winamp 5.04 you can rate songs via:
1) right clicking the songticker in the main window
2) right clicking a playlist entry
3) right clicking a library entry
4) binding a global hotkey (eg. ctrl+alt+5)
Along with the extra rating features provided by Toaster & Rate-It plugins (which I'm sure you read all about by following the relevant links in the Wishlist sticky), please don't expect any more than that!
iTunes? Pah! :D

i didnt know it until they pointed it out, but itunes does allow you rate from their system tray icon... though i still think its easier to rate with hotkeys..

toaster works well for me. call up the little window with hotkey, and then just rate with the scroll wheel.
gracias :D

umm not to sound stupid...just really lazy to find the answer my self... but where exactly is the rating stored?
is it stored in the mp3?
if it is... why not also allow the rating to be changed in the file properties box?

It's stored in the Media Library's database, not in the MP3.
Dude, how many fucking ways do you need to change the damn rating? There is enough ways already.

@bpr0422
You can store it in the mp3 if you wish...

Personally, I think it's all rather pointless...
Here's my rating system:
5 = awesome
4 = good
3 = never listen to (see 1+2)
1+2 = delete

While I agree with you in theory, DJ Egg, on the rating scheme.. but in theory communism works :p
I dont bother rating stuff in my 'singles/misc' directory, if its there its because i like it, and if I dont I either delete or just keep it around in case someone else wants to listen to it.
But I have a terrible memory for song names, and when I have complete albums from artists, its convenient to be able to quickly find 'tagged' songs to go back to - for when I only have time to listen to a few songs or want to queue up a bunch of songs from different artists and would like to make my own 'top 40'. I use the rating combined with the playcounts to find songs I like, as Im not good at remembering their names. But the non-tagged/rated songs arent deleted, as occasionally I would like to hear complete albums from a particular artist.
