Are you such a cheap bastard that you can't even be bothered to pay for the entertainment that costs millions for other people to produce for you?

Do us all a favour, go out, earn some money and stop being a freeloader.

Ta.

I haven't seen Pirates Of The Caribbean yet, but I'm told it's an excellent movie. I do have the soundtrack, though, which is great. Normally, I'm not into pirates and similar stuff.

PotC sucked horribly. The plot was sloppy and the script was just stupid.

See it if it comes on TV, otherwise don't waste your time and money.

Cutthroat Island was worse though..

I always go and see a movie at the cinema if i want to see it. Nothing beats going to the cinema, settling down into the big comfy chairs and enjoying a huge screen performace of a filmf.

yArrr..

i watch alot of movies in cinema, and rent alot of dvd's, and have a growing collection of pirated movies on my pc.

I have no moral problem with watching pirated movies, when i hire a movie or watch one in cinema, i never actually consider that i am paying the director/actors etc for their good work. Instead, I think that i am paying the cinema/rental store for their service. After all, i pay the same amount of money for every movie, even though i like some much more than other's.

So when i download a movie, or get one off a friend, or rip a dvd etc, i dont think that im doing an unjustice to the artists, because it never actually fealt like i was doing them any good when i was watching movies legitimately. The only difference now is, I am not making use of the cinema/rental's service, and therefore, am not paying them money.

Thats why i dont have a moral problem with it. Im not saying it justifies it. Its just a matter of me not really caring.

[edit] and Bilbo, totally. nothing beats the big screen, thats something pirated movies cant compete with.

I think darijan's intent of this thread was to get opinions on aquiring movies by less than legal means, such as bootlegging or downloading.

I don't download movies, but I think that's only cuz I can't get DSL where I live.

Reminds me of... Thor! Thor, can you give us some advice to help keep things hot in the bedroom?
Take a longbow and twenty of your finest men. Head to where the sun sets. There you will find a village. Pillage, plunder and burn all that you find!

The only time I watch a pirated film is when I can't be arsed to go to the cinema.

Which is a pretty lame excuse really.

Pirated movies are just not the same, quality wise. Would help if I had a proper DVD burner :whistles:

But, I do like buying DVD's, when I have the extra cash :)

I'm a 'head in the sand' American, so I'm not familliar with global ticket prices. I think that both the record industry and the film industry(U.S. mainly) could cut pirating by vast ammounts if they simply did one thing. Offerred good quality product at affordable prices.

I do buy cd's and dvd's and try to afford to go to the movies(cinema to many). There are DVD's worth $20.00, they bother to include widescreen and full screen formats, and things like director's commentary, and behind the scenes extras. Many are not worth the asking price(gotta love previously viewed).

There are CDs worth $15.00 to $20.00, they have an album's worth of good songs on them. Most CDs aren't worth that. They have maybe one or two good songs on them and if you want to buy singles you end up paying about $5.00 per song. So many folks use itunes or some other music service where they pay about a buck a track. That's not bad(untill you consider how many of those services have really heavy restrictions about burning and transferring the music files).

The truth is, I'm not above downloading an earworm, or even a movie that in my gut I know is a piece of crap. I want to see it so I'm not totally out of the pop-culture loop, but will be damned if I'm going to spend $10.00 on a ticket and another $10.00 on refreshments, and another $5.00 on transportation. I'm just not rich.

I walk down the street and spot several people who have burned pirated material to CD and or DVD and are selling the copies for between $5.00 and $10.00, and their sources are usually much better than the usual filesharing programs. I have never bought anything from them, but know folks who have, and those DVDs sold on the street are actually pretty good quality. I've seen them on other people's computers and dvd players.

That's a really long-winded explanation as to why I'm neither for nor against pirated material. Just the other night I figured out how to use a single line-in cable to encode my cassettes to mp3's and really the quality is about that of most of the mp3's you can download. So I figure I saved myself hundreds of dollars just by doing that, and will save myself hundreds more when I bother to get a new turntable and do the same thing with all my vinyl. That's a lot of money the record industry will never see(won't be buying cd's to replace music I allready have legally), and I'm sure if they could they would find a way to stop us from doing even that.

It's kind of hard to feel bad about the entertainment industry losing money, when I watch programs on E!, MTV, and VH1 which show how much money the celebrities and even execs have and how they spend it. A diamond studded dog neckalace that could feed a third world village for a year or more? The famous actress who only shampoos her hair with Evian? Bono and Chris Tucker flying to Africa to shine a light on poverty, and the spread of HIV and AIDS, but wearing fancy clothes and sleeping in fancy hotels? Am I the only one who thinks such things are just as vulgar and perhaps sinful as pirating(stealing)?

Someone here has a quote from the bible as their sig. Somehow I'm reminded of the bible saying something about it being easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the gates of heaven.

i don't like pirating movies much. i download them mostly to see if i'm going to like them or not so i don't have to waste cash on something i will end up not liking. i like buying the DVDs if i like the movie. the DVDs i have are of movies i've seen before and knew i'd like them before i bought them.
