To play my stream in Winamp, I can tell people to put the following in their Winamp Play URL field:
http://mimaradio.serve.mp3.com:8000/listen.pls
Is there an equivalent simple instruction to get my stream playing in Windows Media Player?
I did a search and found something about generating an asx playlist file and uploading it to my server. However, I have no server and am just streaming from my home laptop.
I am very new to all this and some step by step help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Remove the "listen.pls" and it will work with Open URL.
You could also still generate the ASX file, email or send it to them over messenger - then when they open it off their local drive, windows media will open and be told to play the stream.

Thanks a lot James. Well I managed to create an asx file and attached it to an email. I sent it to someone and it worked! However, some folks have a policy of never opening attachments or mails with attachments so I would love to be able to include the asx file as a direct link in the message body. As I said I am serving this up from my home pc. Is there any way I can do this?
Thanks again

Upload the asx file to some free hosting service and put a link to it in the message.

Thanks a lot 101. Great idea. As yet I do not have my own web-page but I shall set one up and do as you suggest.
Cheers

No need to make a website for that not even a page, just get a free account at Lycos for example, upload the .asx and format a link for you message as http://somehost/file.asx when someone clicks it, the asx will be downloaded and WMP will open. The only prob you could face is asx MIME type improperly configured on that particular host.
