Mic problem

Hey guys currently running 1.9.1 Server, the djs are currently useing 1.8.2b plugin. All of the djs can broadcast mp3 via winamp with no problem, but when any of the djs go to "sound input device" their voices sound like squrrils on crack, when they switch back to winamp the stream stays whacked dropping back to 24Kbps x 22 kHZ. For a few other details when broadcasting mp3s the stream is set for 64Kbps x 22 kHZ and sounds great. Currenly the server is on a 384Kbps upstream package. With this bandwidth limitation the broadcast is capped at 6(today have only ever connected 3 listners). We are more beta testing working out the buggs before trying to get any sort of listner base. The current server is a amd 400 with 512 ram running 2000 Server. If we pre-record .wav files for voice promos they stream just fine via winamp (just like the mp3's). So any idea why switching to the mic throws things so out of whacked?? Ive read the forms and have not come accross a mention of this problem. Dug threw the config file and did not note anything that could cause this problems.

That is a known bug:

DSP :: Encoder 1 Defaults to 24 kbps When Switching Input Device Bug
Date Reported: 5/27/2002 (m/d/y)
Version: 1.8.2b (guessing 1.8.2a too)
Details: When switching the Input Device from Winamp to Soundcard Input the settings for encoder 1 are not carried over and revert back to 24 kbps, 22 kHz, Mono (encoder still shows previous bitrate but 24 kbps is streamed). Soundcard Input to Winamp works as it should.
Workaround: Do not use encoder 1 if you will be switching the Input Device frequently. If you need all five encoders then be sure to reset the bitrate on encoder 1 after switching from Winamp to Soundcard Input.

Use encoder2 and that will solve your problem.
