I've wanted to ask this question for a long time and I feel this is the best place to do it, I hope people can help me out on this because I means alot to me.

Ok, is there any possible way of getting Winamp's online streaming radio stations onto any kind portable fashion apart from the computer. Maybe there's some kind of Winamp radio tuner that people can buy and install in their cars, maybe some way of recording live streams and burning them on CD's or anything at all.

A laptop with a CellPhone interface and Internet access on the cell account would do what ya need. Satelite radio would be cheaper...

I've heard there is a way to record live streams, but I've never really looked into it.

Total Recorder.

If it can be heard, it can be recorded.

Speaking of XM radio, I want one.

I'd get it if Digitally Imported was on it.

Actual topic is such a letdown from the title.

Recording it and playing it back wouldn't be quite the same as just being able to stream it whenever you wanted to listen, but maybe that's the only real option.

And as a matter of fact, discussion of streamrippers is against the rules :)

No station wants to be ripped anyways :)

I want to move to that town where the whole place is one big wireless networks

Damn! I thought that this was discussion about meaning of life or something.. (and I don't believe it's 42 :p) Definetly a letdown as Cognition said :(

A new technology being developed called Wi Fi Max will offer internet connections via hotspots with up to 30 miles of coverage. Once that hits the possibilities are endless.

42 is just the answer. The real difficulty is finding the question that 42 is the answer to, the Most Important Question In The World.

Careful, if the question and the answer are found the universe will be destroyed and replaced with something even more bizarre and incomprehensible.

nah, it's just the earth that will be destroyed, but then again, who are we to stand in the way for progress?

Nah ... it's 41.

The Answer to life, the universe and everything is never quite as big as you expect it to be.

Please amend to 43 if you are feeling in a more optimistic mood.

One things for sure, it's never what you thought it was going to be :)

Enough of the spam.

So far I've got the cellular trick, Wi Fi max and recording ideas. Can someone give me much more details on how recording should be done and using what?

(Sorry if this question isn't allowed)

No one is going to tell you how to rip streams here, it's in the rules you agreed to (http://forums.winamp.com/rules.php) when you signed up, and has already been pointed out to you once earlier in this thread in this post.

Now, be a good fellow, and don't ask again.

They already thought of that, and they don't think it is. And "nobbert"? WTH?

Actually he was referring to:
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened

Interesting that this thread got derailed to be ON topic.

I wonder if Nullsoft could contract with Sirius or XM to have a Winamp music stream added to a satellite radio channel. That would be very cool.

For example, "WinampRadio on Sirius 49". (A channel number not currently assigned.)

Then you could enjoy a Winamp radio stream on a portable satellite radio tuner. Nullsoft could then rotate streams on the channel by day, or even more than one per day, to provide more than one stream on one satellite channel.

Just an idea.

(Getting spaceplayradio on a satellite radio channel would be equally cool, IMO.) ;)

I'm sure the big stations could contact XM or Sirius themselves and get a complete channel all to themselves if they wanted.

ScorLibran
14th November 2004, 04:36
That's true. I was just thinking Nullsoft might gain a benefit as well for themselves and increase Winamp licensing by having the name directly associated with a satellite channel.

No advertising would even be necessary, just the name in the channel title, and some of the same playlists many Winamp users already love. Portability is great for dramatically increasing product exposure. And great for people wanting to experience the product in places other than at their desk.

Nullsoft doesn't own any of the Winamp radio stations or control their content. It would be up to the station owners to get a channel on XM/Sirius.

ScorLibran
14th November 2004, 04:48
I know. I was thinking more of a third-party contract.

Nullsoft leases the channel, then subcontracts timeslots to the stream owners. The music gets to fans in more places, the stream owners get more exposure, and Nullsoft gets their product name on it.

The DJ would have to announce stream changes and have regular callouts to provide exposure for stream owners, yet the channel would always be "WinampRadio" on people's satellite receiver displays.
