I started using Shoutcast a few days ago. I was streaming stuff from winamp to a couple of my friends, no problem, everything was working fine.
Now all of a sudden today, I couldn't connect anymore...eventually I got that sorted out. So now I'm able to connects in the winamp plugin, but I keep getting this message
<11/16/04@22:24:45> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<11/16/04@22:24:45> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 138.88.229.153:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out))
in the DNAS gui.
I read the topic on this problem in the FAQ and it didn't help at all. I have attempted tweaking my router's configuration several times to no avail: people still are not able to listen to the stream anymore.
Somebody please help, Im getting really frustrated.

also tried to look at the other things that are in the error line
- firewall down?
- clear your internet cache
- upgraded your windows with sp2?

The main problem with routers is DHCP!
DHCP is great for those "newbies" who don't want to learn how to set up a network and thisk its EASY to just "plug in it and go"...
ISP's also love DHCP because it makes setting up a SERVER difficult at best!
Because you are trying to run a server DHCP is your ENEMY!
What has happened, is DHCP has reassigned your IP and now all those nice settings in your router are now useless
Heres some suggestions that you can try.. I cannot take you "by the hand" through your router's setup.. that you have to figure out on your own!
1.. DISABLE the router's LOCAL DHCP, and manually assign IPs for each computer on your LAN.. One of the things people fail to understand is, when using local DHCP, IP's are assigned by the order of power up and if you later power up things in a different order- ALL the IP assignments are changed!
This condition is VERY BAD for your shoutcast server!
Notice, I said local DHCP.. the ISP's DHCP server is something else and thats something you also have to contend with.. but, at least, your router won't be changing the port forwarding assignments from your server on machine One to your parent's computer downstairs! You want to MANUALLY assign each and every computer on the network and give them static IPs to your home LAN.
Once you have the IP issue taken care of, now you will want to foreward the casting port from the DNAS machine to the internet.. if the DNAS machine is the same as the "source" machine (the machine that has winamp) you will need to foreward the port base and the next port up (called X and X+1) to the internet.. if the source is on a seperate computer than the DNAS, then you'll need to foreward the portbase X and X+1 from the source and port X from the DNAS machine (don't forget to allow access through the XP firewall which gets "turned on" and resetted when you upgrade to Service Pack 2!)

Unless you MANUALLY set up your network... setting the IP, host, subnet mask, gateway, DNS, and doing this for EACH computer through the windows network interface.. you are using DHCP!
DHCP is for those "not-so-savvy" computer users (like those who use AOL!) who think setting up a network is as easy as pluggin in the modem!
.. and even some mess THAT up, too!
