Right now, a movie is in the theaters over here that makes fun of LOTR, it's a Swiss production (note that there are only very little movies produced in Switzerland each year), it's called "The ring thing" and doesn't look very funny at all to me...all my Swiss friends think it's hilrious and want to watch it and I'm still thinking about just going to see it in order to appreciate good movies more after that :p

The only thing that impressed me was that the main character really looks a lot like Frodo:

Anyway, just wanted to share how big the influence was even over here in Switzerland, if anyone wants to see the trailer:

(Note that although it's some form of German they speak I distance myself from it since I in no way speak like them and it took me more than 2 months to even understand that dialect! :D )

At least the poster made me laugh, it's all around town right now:

I also just found out that the movie is sponsored by the Swiss tourism company :blah: I think they hope people will go visit Switzerland as they did to New Zealand.

That shit would NEVER go down here (in America). Why? Because everyone are fucking stuck up soccer moms that cant handle their children seeing any sort of swearword, and any nudity whatsoever. Jackasses - everyone FREAKED out when janet jackson showed most of her boob (NOT BARE boob mind you - no nipple at all showing).

Thats why theres a rating called R...for the 17 or older crowd to view in amusement. Actually, some Rated R movies are extremely good.

Ummm, the Ring thing is rated 12 - you only need to be 12 to watch it if you go without your parents, no one cares over here. You can see boobs on afternoon TV, and no one gets all excited about it, it's just normal, heck it's a part of half of the populations body! ;) Same with Swearwords, no one cares wether you use them or not (well maybe if you go to a very rich household for a fancy dinner you shouldn't shout WTF? but apart from that...).

But I agree that this movie might be rated R over in the US.

Hmm, swear words, boobs on aternoon television, rated 12 movies, perhaps younger drinking age...heck! Switzerland might be the next best place!

Maybe you could just combine a slur of people riding on horses and shouting, mixed with 80's commentary about why Adolf Hitler was a horrible dictator. Add some Monty Python subtitles, and you've got an instant classic.

Bah, Jones and Bilbo, you both forgot the single best Swiss contribution to the world:

Cheese!

As for the movie, I would love to see this if it is ever subtitled or translated. Hell, I may learn German eventually and try to understand it then.
