View Full Version : Wow...best anime I have seen yet.

I was flipping through the usual channels on NTV when I came across the Chron Crusade stream. I was bored so I decided to tune in. After watching one episode, I was latched on. I watched epiosode 13-24, all in one night, lasting from 9 to 4 am. The anime incorporated religious elements into a story about trust, love and the eternal struggle between good and evil. The plot might seem simple at first, but it's very complex especially towards the final episodes. It starts out light hearted, filled with good action and in the last 5 episodes, the mood turns completely serious. The ending was one of the saddest endings I have ever seen, I almost started sobbing. (yes I am a guy). Even though I am not religious, this anime is very artistic and well directed.

heres a short summary:
The story begins in New York in 1924. Sister Rosette Christopher, a young novice nun from the Magdalan Order, a religious militaristic organization, and her assistant and best friend Chrno, a patient and kind hearted demon, are sent to different missions, consisting mostly in fighting the many different monsters that lurk in the shadows. During one of their missions, they met Azmaria Hendrick, a young girl with supernatural powers that is somehow connected to Joshua Christopher, Rosette’s younger brother who was kidnapped several years ago by Aion, a former comrade of Chrno. Aion is an overly ambitious demon that has big plans for the future of the entire world and will go to any lengths to achieve his great “dream of freedom”. To do this, he needs the help of 7 very special people. What exactly are Aion’s plans, and what does he intend to do with Joshua and Azmaria’s powers? Rosette and Chrno, along with Satella, a jewel witch who is also targeting Aion for personal reasons, are determined to find out, but they will have to face the dark shadow of Chrno’s past first, a past that is now coming back to torment him and could separate Rosette and Chrno forever. Will the strong bond they share be able to survive the test? Will they be willing to pay a very high price in order to stop Aion and rescue Joshua and everybody else?

Any anime enthusiasts seen this series? Or you can tell us about your fav. anime.

Anime series don't really say me anything....

Allthough i think Hayao Miyazaki's (http://imdb.com/name/nm0594503/) movies, Grave Of The Fireflies (http://imdb.com/title/tt0095327/) and Metropolis (http://imdb.com/title/tt0293416/) are very good.

Sure manga can count.. I find it if you want to enjoy an anime series you shouldn't read the manga first because it always takes away from the series.

Yes, Love Hina is very enjoyable since it is light-hearted and comical, but I feel that Hellsing the series wasn't as good as it could be.

I know it's a movie - didnt know this was limited to shows.

SSJ4 Gogitta
29th December 2004, 20:49
It isn't limited to series'.

It's just that Mononoke Hime is far too short (134 min) to get a lot of enjoyment out of, compaired to, say, Trigun, which has a total air time of about 650 minutes, or ******, which currently has an air time of about 2300 minutes, and not even half-way done. So much more in an anime series to enjoy than in a movie. Though, yes, you can indeed have a favorite anime movie, but I'd throw in a series to go along with it.

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing was very good, most of the other Gundam series episodes I've seen haven't been very good though.
Cowboy Bebop and Trigun were excellent.
FLCL was bizarre, but fun.
Tenchi made me cry once, I think I was pretty lonely at the time, I really fell in love with those characters.
DBZ is 2 minutes of action and 20 minutes of grunting, stand-off, and build-up, and then 3 minutes of "don't miss the exciting next episode!" No thanks.

I'm currently in the middle of Samurai Champloo which I've been downloading fan subs of since it's only just airing in Japan right now. It's by the same guy that did Cowboy Bebop and is quite excellent thus far.

SAILOR MOON (sry, it just poped into my head)
Trigun (pwange)
Tenchi Muyo - Tenchi in Space (pwnage)(not tenchi in tokyo or the GXP or anything after Space)
Gundam Wing
Outlaw Star (pwnage)
Inuyasha
FullMetal Alchemist
Cowboy BeBop (pwnage) (...bang bang...)

ummm... I think that's most of them. I'll look though my *cough*legal CD's and see if I forgot anything.

I don't know a lot about anime but when the mrs. and I were living in Rome for a month, we had a place with a TV that picked up Italian MTV. They showed a ton of anime on there. Our favourite was Blue Submarine Number Six. There was another one that seemed to be about a high school basketball team. That one sucked. Of course it was all in italian so follwoing the dialog was a little hard. Endless sequences of guys hurtling through the air on a slam dunk was just too much to watch.

Yep, I do.
There is one thing that I dislike about the ****** series. It's the reminisence parts in some of the episodes. They are the bane of my ****** watching existence. One episode would have a nice action scene for about 10 min and it would turn more and more dramatic. Then all of sudden, BAM! comes one flashback after another. I understand that some of them might be necessary to get more background on the character, but taking up 60% of the episode and leaving a huge cliffhanger?? Those tormenting bastards.

Oh yeah the fight between Gaara and Rock Lee was awesome. Way better than any of the previous fights in the preliminary matches.

SSJ4 Gogitta
14th January 2005, 19:05
hahah, indeed.

Then again, ****** follows closely to the manga. The flashbacks are there, too.

Jiraiya appears at the very END of chapter 90 of the manga, and pretty much starts at chapter 91.

The manga is currently at chapter 243. Chapter 244 will be out near Feb 1 (Kishimoto took a month off after the Kakashi Gaiden (small Kakashi back story, which is after the end of "****** part 1"). ****** part 2 will start Feb 1, which is afrter a 3 year ****** time skip (ie: everyone will be 3 years older).

Wont go much further than that unless you've read the mana.

And I doubt Ed and Al will see each other again. I hope the movie will fill the holes up.
