I've been a happy winamp user for years. Recently I've encountered one problem, horrible slow down, stuttering, clipping, distortion, and lag when listening to mp3's and browsing webpages, email, looking at pictures, looking at ebay, etc. it's similar to many of the problems reported here, but none of the fixes given really work.
This is my current set up.
Athlon XP 1900+
512 MB SDRAM
80GB 5400/100 HDD
Nvidia Geforce4 Ti4200
Turtle Beach Riviera soundcard connected to 5.1 HT/Audio receiver via Optical Out
Windows XP Home, fully updated including SP2, Directx 9.0 C
Nvidia Drivers 61.77
Latest reference driver for Riviera [C-Media CMI8738 DSP]
Winamp 5.08, no plug ins, standard.
Virus Check comes out clean, no infected files.
Spybot/AdAware report only small tracking cookies, nothing else.
Hijack This Log is here: http://www.sarareku.com/hjt.txt
The soundcard and the video card are not new, this had not happened previously this year, at all.
I tried: increasing buffer, tweaking DS settings, enabling cpu control usage, disabling all fading features, etc.
So pretty much, I am very confused. Why is this happening? It's the same system, same configuration as always? I tried 2.95 and .91 and neither one acts any differently, still the same problem.
