Yeah, I don't really like Inca Steppa all that much, but i can appreciate it somewhat because it's something different; as with a lot of the album is a step in a different direction than what we're used to with JR. The rest of the album is good too. Immaculate Crucifixion is the highlight of the album for me.

Well, my tastes are odd. I tend to like explorations in electronic music and I hate the fact that it's damn hard for me to discover anything decent since I haven't been around any true 'scenes' in a few years. Every time I try looking around I find another tiesto or oakenfold clone. They and their followers were good, but they got painfully repetitive and I was thinking of the term "ad nauseam" just about every time I heard them.

I really like Kid606, but don't know of others I should be looking at. There are so many sub-genre titles now (happy hardcore, acid jazz, drum-n-bass, jungle, hard house, trance, trip-hop, breakbeat, house, etc. I don't even know what some of those mean. I know trance, hard house, drum-n-bass. The rest I don't. I'm a big fan of ambient electronic music too, which is another hard one to find for me.

I'd welcome any suggestions.

Could not have said it better myself. Actually, that's exactly what "pushed" me into hard house. Everything main stream started sounding tiesto/oakenfold like. Grew tired of it.

I was on another forum dedicated to trance (though they have since encompassed just about all edm now) and someone recommended Anne Savage (who still holds the throne for hard house in my opinion) to me and pointed out that she was on the top of said individuals list to see live next.

I was hooked :)

As for the music, I am sure you could look this up and am sure I am going to be somewhat giving inaccurate summaries of wiki, but:

happy hardcore: 4/4 beat characterized by solo lyrics, bpm range is generally 150/160 - 180 (4/4 beat meaning not steady and repetitive like house/trance). As with all hardstyles, it is in serious decline since circa 1999, but there are still seriously dedicated fans and artists.

DnB: very similar to breaks, but faster. Around 160-180 bpm. DnB is jungle.

Trip-hop: Not too sure about this as I never really got into it. Mainstream, check out UNKLE, as I believe they classify. Mix of trance and rock if you ask me.

Breakbeat: Afrika Bambaataa was the king of this style imho and way ahead of his time (late 70's if memory serves; get your hands on 'Feel the Vibe' from him). Another 4/4 drum pattern characterized by one or more unexpected rhythm patterns (meaning a simple 5 against 2 beat pattern, or similar, meanig for every five beats of one, you get two of another). Due to the style, bpm is generally less than 140 and above 80/100. Cooler Kids - Around the World is about the festest I've heard in breaks and comes in at about 140 bpm, thus making it a wonderful transition song between hard house and breaks.

Naturally, with all the off beat patters the more off it gets, the more of a pain it becomes to mix. Ya' simply can't easily mix a 3 against 2 beat with a 5 against 2 beat.
