View Full Version : Bubble Lights!!!

8th December 2000, 08:02
Hey, have you guys seen bubble light before? Aren't they wonderfull!!!? I thing someone should make a bubble light plugin for winamp. Or how about just a bubble light emulator. Maybe I should make one!! Yes, I will!!!
Except, the only programming language I know is BASIC (however I am the MASTER of TI-BASIC!!!), and I suck. I guess I could make a movie! Sound and all!!

Come on, somebody must have seen bubble-lights before? Tell me about your bubble-lights!! Share your bubble light experience!!! I have pretty bubblelights. I used command adhesive to put them on my wall. My roomate thinks I like them because I smoke crack, but I don't smoke crack. (He doesn't believe me!!!) My neighbors do, but I do not. They are all clear, and they have multi-colored light bulbs. They remind me of Zelda64 a little in the way the light shines on the wall. One blue one has a yellow vial, though, because while starting it's bubbling (which you do by shaking it. A lot of people don't realize that if the light is on, the vial will bubble) the clear vial went flying and broke. Luck for me I had a spare! It was yellow, from one of the standard red/greed based lights that burned out.
Ya know what's cool to do with the burned out bulbs? Take the vial (carefully) out of the casing, and hold the base between your fingers, then shake it. It will bubble to your body heat!!!!

Ooh, gotta go! Please reply!! I'll feel so lonely if you dont!

THANK-YOU!!!!!

Wow - an americanised tacky version of the brilliant lava lamps that are enjoying a comeback now! Influenced by the superbly naff 60's cult sci-fi film Barbarella. Apparently the original versions were to blame for a spate of house fires coz they got so hot (much like the Intel Cyrix chip!)

Beware the dreaded lava lamp!
NEVER leave it on too long, they do catch fire from expanding oil if not sealed well. Luckily I wasn't too high when the damn thing decided it wanted to trip me out with it's lava spewing. Almost resembled a cloudless Mount St. Helens!

OK so I'm knackered beyond belief - Intel Cyrix chip http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Cyrix would be another chip manufactuer wouldn't it! I think I meant the Celeron or whichever of the multitude of chips they've brought out has the bad reputation for acting as a central heating system.

I would like to clarify my earlier statement. I did not mean to imply that all bubble lights were "the most hideous things in the world" only the ones seen at Phallic Symbols 'R' Us (http://www.bettyschristmashouse.com/bubble.htm). I am sure there are some neat ones.

Shitbear: '5 feet tall and 5" in diameter' That is scary! http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/eek.gif Be careful what you do with that.

So has anybody experienced bubble-lights? If you have not, you are deprived. You are required to go to Wal-Mart and buy one and try it out!!
They are not really like lava lamps, though seeing as they are only about 5 inches tall. They contain Methylene Chloride at a special pressure that causes it to boil if the bottom is warmer than the top. The light heats the bottom, and it bubbles. When the bubbles reach the top, they condense, and the cycle continues forever.

Oh my! I just phound out what a phallic symbol is. Well, I'd never thought of it that way. It's not funny. OK, a little.

Have a good day!

I do not smoke the crack rocks!! My neighbors smoke the crack rocks. My neighbors also play the music loud, and nearly rattle my beautiful bubble-lights off the wall. I installed VNC onto my neighbor's PC. Hehehe! I'll teach him to shove that stinky sofa in front of my door!

Very nice. Works good! Not a virus! Installs as a service! Legitimate! Only has one father! Good!

Very similar to bubble-lights!

bye!

Please ignore the next line. The system is lying because it doesn't like me!

What ever happened to the idea of a bubble light plugin? You know, I think an exploding lightbulb in the fire plugin would be cooler though. And no mess to clean up in winamp either!

HMM...
Yes, I can see it now. The bubbles size is changed by the volume or whatever. They could even be released in time to the beat. I'm thinking like that worms 3d-thing. The diameter of the worm is determined by some sort of frequency analysis; the size of the bubbles would work the same way.
What programming language do you need to know to write a VIS plugin? Will Qbasic 4.5 work? How about TI-BASIC? (I am the master of TI-BASIC. I made, and still have, a program that renders numeric expressions to the graph screen on a TI-85; the images for the numbers stored in a matrix. Very efficient size and code wise, but rather slow. I could have just made a new section for each number in the program itself. Would be nice and fast, but Friggin' huge.)

Maybe I should port Winamp to TI-BASIC. Somehow I don't think that's possible.

Good day!

I'll just enter the code in mine as you entered in yours since I don't have my TI-83 hooked up to my cumputer...

Actually, JMPZ, you may want to try actually printing the numbers to the home screen and using pixel-get routines. Do they work on the home screen, or just the graph screen?

Ok, I have no time to do anything that is not 2D-studio art, or Educational Psychology, or English Composition; but I managed to find my link cable (yes, i brought it with me), and used the dos LINK85XP. Even with winme it worqued grate! So anyway, later (over christmas break?) I can add comments/polish them up. One writes numbers to the screen from a matrix, one finds the estimated area under a curve with an upper or lower Riemann sum - features an acurate percentage based progress bar, and after calculating it, it can draw what it did. The other one I remember was an attempt at a modular menuing system. It works great, but I never did find a need for it.
Anyway, you can get the file at the following location. http://www.angelfire.com/mi2/nativesun/mpthree.html

Let me know what you think. You can get utilities to view/transfer the files at the following location. http://www.ticalc.org/

My lava lamp has clear watery stuff and greenish moving stuff. Mine doesn't work right. After it has been on for a while, it starts to split into a lot of little bubbles. It might have something to do with shaking (don't ask why, I don't know) it the first time I fired it up. I was young and foolish.

What colors are you guys's lava lamps?

I've messed with BASIC before. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/eek.gif I actually took some short written pieces of music and made it into programs, but now my piece of crap Texas Instruments machine, barely eligible to be called a computer, has no sound, and all those boring hours of typing "Call Sound (xxxx, xxx,xx)" (or however it is) were completely wasted. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/mad.gif
