warning to all re directx 8 from micro$oft

i up graded two nights ago silly me thinking that micro$oft would only post stuff that dosent destroy your system all of my music software has ceased to fuction and after reinstalling every related driver i now have to reformat my c drive to get rid of dx 8 as it dose not have an uninstall feature
fantastic! Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Funny, I installed Direct X 8, and i'm running perfectly fine. I've noticed a performance improvement even.

Thanks for the warning, but your just an isolated incident. Majority of people will not suffer what your warning us about.

I don't think that you noticed this when you downloaded DX8.... Microsoft posted a disclaimer on the download page stating that DX8 doesn't have an uninstall feature because it is required for Windows to run properly once installed. If you downloaded DX8 from some other site, then that would explain why. I upgraded a couple days after DX8 was released and have not had any problems whatsoever. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif I would have to agree that your problem is isolated. I wish that I could be of some help, but I don't know enough about the subject.

Dx 8 IS evil. It messed up my video drivers, so know, occasionally, I get video refresh problems For ex, Opera often won't refresh the browser window when a new page loads, so I have to use another window, to "wipe" (i.e. run it across the screen) it clean. Also, occasionaly some parts of the screen become 8bit

dx8... including the betas... sped up my system (while in win98) tremendously... i've yet to see it hurt anything... sorry about your probs

My suggestion to you is to download the latest drivers for your graphics card, and install them. Perhaps try the reference drivers if you are using the card maker's drivers. With my creative banshee, Creative's drivers absolutely suck (meant for dx6 I think), but the reference drivers are very nice.
Your drivers may have some strange thing against dx8.

Ack, I just noticed this post. mr horn, there is a program which uninstalls directx. I have not tried it, but I've heard several positive comments. Most people find some success with this.
