I just always wanted to be able to search for skins and plug-ins seperatly...

how bout when your in the plugin section, the search box above the plug-in will search for plug-ins and the oppisite of skins...

I keep searching for plug-ins and getting a billion skins and not being able to find the plugin in cause its on the 60th page. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/frown.gif

Just a suggestion...

SNYder -

A long-time complaint of mine also.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

In response to the new Winamp homepage:

(1) The very first paragraph still reads:

Nullsoft Winamp is the ultimate high-fidelity music player for Windows 95/98/NT.

As some of us are aware, there are a couple of other Windows operating systems. It would be nice if this paragraph were updated in my lifetime, so users don't continue to pepper the forum with "Will Winamp work with Windows ME (or Windows 2000)?"

(2) Some of us (at least Ice and myself) use the Smaller text size setting for viewing webpages. Using that setting, the new font on the homepage is not very eyeball-friendly, and some information (such as the bug report form and disclaimer links) are virtually unreadable. This is a repetition of the font size error made on the .plan pages a few weeks back. The Smaller text setting does not cause a similar problem on any other webpage I can remember.

Speaking of the Smaller text size, is there any way to force IE (umm... v5.01, W2K SP1) to use a default of Medium? For some reason when I installed Win2K it defaulted to Smaller and won't stay at what I change it to. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/frown.gif

Hmmm. No such problem in Windows 98se. Have you tried changing the size and then rebooting immediately after to see it the setting will stay "stuck"? Hopefully, someone with Windows 2K can help you out.

one word winamp.com, STYLESHEETS. if you set the font size to a particular point (pt) size using style sheets it will look the same no matter how you have your IE config set. exampl, the font i normaly use for my page has a 9pt font size, and even if you set IE to read text at Largest, it will still be only 9pt. I highly sugest that for winamp.com

Yup - the site looks pretty shitty under Netscape 4.76 after the re-design..

The Plugin pages won't load at all...

take a look at what winamp.com looks with Netscape - there are still 30% of the people out there using Netscape - ohh and it's part of AOL as it Nullsoft?

I used to love Comic Sans, but it's two curvy and childish looking ::barf:: :P I much prefer the nice classic look of Arial.

Here's a question for all you. Were the Fizuck did they get the name Arial from? Is it named after the Little Mermaid or somethin? Wasn't her name that too?

Whatever..

Yeah, I love Arial. Clear and sharp. I used that on my old, long-gone website...
And yes "Arial" was the Little Mermaid.
Heh. BUT her name is *really* spelt Ariel. Notice the "e".
It's also the name of washing powder (at least in th UK). Ariel (Arial???) Ultra.
^^^It's GOOD washing powder aswell. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/wink.gif

Yo, just realized the new 2.71, and the web design. BUT I CAN'T DOWNLOAD IT!!!
I CAN NOT DOWNLOAD THE DAMN THING!!!! http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/mad.gif
Anyone help?

How? A point is 1/72nd of an inch. But Windows thinks there are 96 pixels in an inch which makes the font look odd and the kerning is all off and weird on windows fonts.

go to my page: http://erichandjess.***********/Erich.html

and use IE. toggle the font size in IE from Smallest to Largest and the font wont change. thats because of the stylesheeting. Thats how it works with IE at least, i think it'll screw up on Netscape, but its not that bad at all on Opera.

Okay boys and girls.

Here's the deal. The reason why the font sizes are set relatively (using em's, rather than pt sizes) is because there's a reason for browsers to have font size settings, so that a website font will change according to it's application. Brennan, uses his TV to browse the web, and text on WA.COM is difficult for him to read cause he couldn't scale the fonts to larger. Now, with relative font-sizes, he can make his text super big or super small. That's a definate plus in my book.

If you aren't happy about this change, I'm not sure what to say. Properly designed websites would rather go with relative font sizes instead of static point sizes. That's just how it is. I'm not going to sacrifice usabilty for few people complaining cause they changed their settings on their browser to non default settings. That's just ludicrious.

Next point, we're in the process of moving the entire site to CSS, or at least as much as we can. Once we do that, the next logical step is to allow you to choose your own color pallete, font sizes, anything you want. That'll be really cool, but we're not there yet. Please have some patience. We're going to introduce our new nav as well in the coming weeks, stay tuned for that as well. If you have any issues with what I've said. Hit me up at steve@nullsoft.com. I'll be glad to discuss it.

As for going to CSS with the new version of the site, very wise choice, ive been using css since the moment i learned what it was and its made my life that much simpler http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Steve: You specifically asked for feedback. A number of people gave you feedback: the text on the homepage is too small. Your response: dismiss their feedback as "complaining".

All that is needed is for the smallest-sized link captions and the main text blocks to be made one size larger on the main page. That's 16 links and 6 paragraphs. In the universe of web design, that is certainly not a big deal.

But no, instead we get a diversionary argument about relative vs. static size, and default browser settings, and what's coming up a year from now, and oh by the way let's insult those people who dared to criticize.

You know, the Winamp player itself is a great piece of work in part because Justin and the guys willingly implement suggestions from the users. It's really a shame that the winamp.com website doesn't benefit from the same attitude.

cos i always look at 25/50 at a time. having only 5 visible at a time meens it takes ages go thru them all cos you have to keep clicking on next page. I agree. Perhaps they are considering making a cookie option where you say how many to display by default (to go along with the custom colors as Steve mentioned). Either way, getting the option to display number of items per page is a definate feature that needs to return. When it returns, it would be nice to be able to pick how many results per page before the search, the old implementation only let you pick after viewing the first 5.Originally posted by steve

That'll be really cool, but we're not there yet.Relative font sizes are very nice. I run my 17" monitor at 1600x1200 resolution so everything looks smooth. However, standard font sizes usually have to be scaled up a little so I can read them without eye-strain. Hence, I use larger for my font setting, which Winamp.com now supports. Good call.

Will stuff like front page news, number of plugins/skins per page, that kind of stuff also be customizable? An example would be http://www.calc.org/preferences/ .

Either way, the future of Winamp.com sounds pretty cool.

Reverend Ike, you're post is interesting to me. I'll fiddle around with the css some more and consider changing my decision after the new year, when we all come back to work.

The only reason why I'm against it is that the entire site is running off these css tags, and setting all the font-size values to pt. sizes will please people like you and me and some other people who have their browser setting to smaller.

Actually, i'm not going to argue anymore. This is a sunday, and i'm laying in bed. I'll talk about this subject later. Thanks for the response. It was enlightening.
