You cant download music using winamp. Winamp is a music player.
Do a search on peer to peer programs. I used to use winmx

You can stream music, but it's also legal to record the streaming.

Why is it legal to record streaming music but not peer to peer?

Nullsoft have a policy of not supporting stream ripping, what's actually legal depends what part of the world you are from really Missy.

Or on what planet you reside.

It would all have been academic anyway if I hadn't destroyed the 15th copy of the revised planning application(2nd schedule) and delayed the arrival of the Vogons by a further couple of years.

Screw the Vogons.
They don't wipe their feet before they come in.
Now the Helarians!
Those little bastards have class.

Of course no one likes the Vogons, they smoke everyone elses and never their own.
The Helarians are o.k. if you're into purple tentacles.

At least in Norway there is a law that goes by the name "Ã…ndsverkloven" which allow any household to record any media stream to own storable media, and the household can make so many copies that is wanted within the household. No giving that MC to the jerk next door is what that means, but give it to your kids, your lady or husband, or grandpa (if he lives within the household).
Hum "Ã…ndsverkloven" would be something like "Artistic Material Law" or something like that in english.

Downloading any music is totally legal in Canada. But they put an extra 10 cent tax on recordable media that is given to the music industry. Big deal.
WinMX is the best because it isn't full of corrupted files like some P2P clients that share video/software etc.
But still, SUPPORT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY!!

blueprint downloading music is legal in US as well...you've just got to pay for it. Limewire I've heard is good, soulseek I've tried and disliked because I had to wait 40 minutes for it to load all my shared files (mainly because its about 7,000). DC++ is decent. But NONE of these hold a candle to BitTorrent. Its just as legal and it doesn't suffer from the same problem as other p2p networks.
But then again, no matter what medium you use you should always have PeerGuardian running :)
Like spaceplay said, go to your local record store (or a place like amazon.com) to get your music. I've gotten the majority of my music there.

Ok, let me rephrase then.
Downloading music entirely free is legal in Canada.
No .99 per song. No RIAA. No strings attached.
Everything must go!

You used the latest Soulseek 156 version test, here?Latest Soulseek Test Version (http://forums.slsknet.org/BB2/viewtopic.php?t=2551&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=240)
It's about halfway down, as checkmeout.zip .
Edit: the soulseek server has been down for a few hours for maintenance, it'll prolly be on later tonight (in case anyone tries to download this now.)

I use emule and bittorrent, emule for music and bittorrent for anime.
In the US part of the sale of blank recordable media goes to the music industry as well but it's still illegal here. bastards.

Lol, I didn't know they didn't the same thing with recordable media in the states too. Seems kind of stupid really seeing as how it's still illegal.
I use Emule for everything else but music. Movies, software etc. (Not that I pirate :p)

Let me rephrase that: Downloading is indeed legal, but uploading is not. Although they have not done anything about that yet like the RIAA has in the USA.

Yeah i'm not exactly sure what the stance on uploading is. I've heard it both ways here, but am too lazy to search for official information.
Oh and there's no need to rephrase my comment as I didn't mention anything about uploading.

We have these things called 'Audio CDs' in the UK that have a levy of some sort, but the're only required with standalone recorders not computer drives.

That's exactly what it is here. I've heard sales people use the word levy. It does not go for computer drives either. It's intended to be on anything that people may put music on, this means it's on DVD's, Mp3 players (Ipod's too) and such. They couldn't justify putting it on a harddrive.
