View Full Version : Using a Remote Control with Winamp

I've got an HP Media Center PC with a Universal Remote... and I'd love to use it to control Winamp. There used to be a plugin called RM-X or something, but I can't find it anymore. Girder looks like it might help, but there are way too many functions to figure out, and I'm not sure if there's a working plugin for Winamp 5.
If anybody has advice for remote controlling Winamp, I'd love to hear it. Maybe there's even a way to pull it into MCE and use it from there? I'm definitely not installing Windows Media Player.
Thanks!

There used to be a plugin called RM-X or something, but I can't find it anymore.By the above I'll assume that RM-X worked well for you before, so I'll now point you to it and disregard the rest of your post. Easier that way. ;)
You probably couldn't find it again because the Winamp.com search database is completely borked now, and has been for awhile.
Anyway... grab it directly from the author's site (http://www.darkain.com/).
Since this references a 3rd-party authored plugin, moving this now from Winamp Tech Support to Winamp Discussion

Thanks! I didn't realize the search didn't work.
RM-X looks good, but here's the one thing I can't figure out:
I'm using Toaster with Global Hotkeys for assigning ratings quickly. It would be *great* if I could rate songs from the remote. Is there any way I can get RM-X to do this?

Is there any way I can get RM-X to do this? For that, you'll have to contact the plugin author (http://www.darkain.com/) directly. As I said, we don't offer support for 3rd-party authored plugins here. A good place to start would be to post directly within the author's forums (http://www.darkain.com/forums/).
[EDIT]
Good news. The search database at Winamp.com just came back online a short time ago. Finally!! :)
Search results (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.php?search=yes&filter=C&query=RM-X) for RM-X
Direct link (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=142585) to the plugin published at Winamp.com (although the author's site probably has an updated version)
[EDIT #2]
I take it back. It was only temporarily working. 3 hours later now, and the search database is completely borked again.

Hello, I have got a HP HDX18 laptop with infrared remote control ( given remote works with windows media center, media player classic,etc.). I tried to download some plugins from winamp website, unfortunatelly none of them works ( at least with my remote control).
Could anybody give me some advice on how to get those plugins working or which one of them to install?
THX.
