View Full Version : Baby chicken not acting it's age...

I recently purchased two baby chickens. After 3 days I put them in a cage outside and unfortunately one of them put its head throught the mesh and got it taken off by my dog. To be fair to the remainding chicken I purchased another, this new one younger by about a week is itself ony 3 days old.
What surprises me is that the old baby chick is treating this new one like its own baby. It will allow me to pat itself but if my hand goes near the young one it will attack my hand! This seems to me as very unusual animal behaviour. What do you guys think?

Bigmoosie, I am removing your avatar for the following reason:

Despite what your avatar might lead new members to believe, you are far from being an administrator of the winamp forums, and as it is felt that this might be misconstrued by other members, we are removing it so that you can replace it with something more suitable.
Have a nice day.

No, not really.
Often animals will bond very closely with one another. I've seen this kind of thing in birds, dogs and cats before.

I have never really studied animal behaviour. To me its just protective, after what happened to the previous chicken.

**sorry cragF**, when I did it I didnt mean to elude anybody, I didnt take into account that some people would take it seriously, I meant to do it just to show what such a trick was capable of pretending to do.
