I run a web based radio station using and I'l love it if the Randomize Playlist feature could avoid playing songs from the same artist within the same X hours (minutes)

I'd like to be able to save "blocks" that consist of my station identification mp3 and commercials, and I'd love to be able to automatically insert these blocks into the play list every X minutes, songs or hours. These blocks could appear at the top of every hour. I also like to be able to randomize these blocks without having the same blocks put back to back.

Basically, I just desire a much better playlist editor. One with more smarts and editing options.

If someone knows of a program or plug in that could edit the playlist better, please let me know.

I couldn't agree more. The playlist does need work.

the playlist does everything that it needs to. adding all that stuff would really complicate things.

my suggestion:

create a REAL long playlist.. and insert your advertisements/station id in the playlist where you want it.

Go to www.mp3.com (http://www.mp3.com)

click on software - playlist

there are about a half dozen programs that are specifically written for DJ's. Way too much power for me - but sounds like it'd be perfect for you.

I agree, only DJ's need that much power, it would be confusing for other people. I do like the don't replay idea... I notice that winamp will play the same song again while on random play, even though it just played it. I needs to make a "checklist" and cross songs off (in the background) and then reset them after a user-set period of time
Ideally there would be an option in the setup for "How long before a song can be repeated within the playlist" and then the users could put in like 15 minutes maybe even be able to change this for each playlist. Then winamp would keep from replaying that song for 15 minutes.

..or songs within a certain directory would be played within a set amount of time from each other

That's true. Winamp needs a better randomize function. I have my MP3 organized into artist directories and when I turn on the randomize function what I want winamp to do is to separate as far as possible the songs from a same directory (that is to say, from the same artist).
