This has been reported several times. Please post system specs (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=161361#specs). What are your video settings (Winamp > Ctrl+P > General Preferences > Video). Does this happen with a Classic and/or Modern skin.
After you have a chance to note the video settings, try one of more of the following... Use a modern skin
Turn off video overlay (Winamp > Ctrl+P > General Preferences > Video > uncheck 'Allow hardware video overlay' > close & restart Winamp)
Turn off Fullscreen OSD (Winamp > Ctrl+P > General Preferences > Video > uncheck 'Enable On Screen Display while in fullscreen ')Moving to WA Bug Reports until otherwise

I too am having this problem on all video files I've tried (mpg, avi (divx, xvid)). I was able to correct by unchecking 'Allow hardware video overlay'.
specs:
Sony PCV-RX550
Win 2k Service Pack 4
DirectX 9.0c
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
SB PCI(WDM)
768MB RAM
P4 1.5 GHZ
Install file: winamp51_full_emusic-7plus.exe
I use it in classic skin.

afaik, benski has fixed this issue for v5.11, although I could never personally reproduce it.

The common factor seems to be nVidia. I been able to reproduce this issue between one of two equivalent computers and both had nVidia cards . Computer A had original ("out of package") drivers and Computer B had updated drivers. Reproduced on A, could not reproduce on B. Apparently I can no longer reproduce the issue after updating the nVidia drivers on computer A.
To make a long story short. If you have a nVidia card, update the drivers or wait for WA 5.11.

Yeah, well everyone's meant to have the latest graphics/sound/etc drivers before posting here ;)

:p Supposedly, yes. If only that was true...

Oops. My drivers were like 2 months out of date. Sorry guys.
Now I feel ridiculous for not checking those before.

I have the same problem, but I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro with latest drivers... odd. I'll just wait for 5.11

just classic skin

Weird, it kinda works using just the modern skin. I think the problem is that the classic skin doesn't resize the video to the edges of the black bars and the black bars don't go away. With the modern skin, the bottom and top parts come up and the video is resized so that nothing gets cut off. The classic skin doesn't do that, and it forgets to remove the black bars.
