In comparement with other players Winamp seems to decode mp3's with worse quality. It is very noticeable with lo-fi mp3's but also with 160kbps ones! It's hard to describe difference between other players, but I'll try: Winamp seems mask mp3 encoding noises less then any other player. Annoying "mp3 noise" is much more noticeable than with, for example, WinMediaPlayer, Sonique, XMplay. It happens with any decoder.
Am I the only one who have noticed? As far as I know some other people also did! Difference is quite big!!!!

Nitrane does have a VERY MINOR decoding bug, but i doubt it can cause you this much quality loss. Check to see if you have full quality, and also check your output plug. Anyway winamp 3 will have a new and better decoding engine.

I've checked everything several times http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/frown.gif. No chance of my fault. The only player I remember that also decodes with such a bad quality was C-4. Try to carefully compare music from WinAmp with any other player. You'll surely notice the difference.

If I remember correctly, we were told the decoder bug would be fixed in the next release. That would be version 2.63. Does anyone know if it has in fact been fixed?

As of version 2.64, the decoder bug has NOT been fixed. I just checked.
I hope they fix the bug before version 3, just in case I don't like it.
