Often while listening to Winamp and trying to log on to the net with IE5 my system freezes, or this may happen when changing sites. Any reasons? I am running a P3 with plenty 128megs Ram. Win 98 2nd ed

What kind of crap is this? The guy posts a bug report, not a great one, but it is one. And the Moderator insults him?
The Moderator? Give me a break

I agree.
Ever since WinAmp 2.6, my system freezes up every time I play an MP3 in WinAmp. I like WinAmp's interface and graphic equalizer, it is the easiest program to play MP3s with.
However this total system freeze problem is chronic. I may actually be able to play one or two songs before it freezes up, but freeze up it does, every time.
Windows Media Player, CoolPlayer and a host of others I've tried work fine. It is only WinAmp that does this.
But since I too am probably a moron for reporting a bug fix, I've learned something: WinAmp doesn't give a rat's behind if I have problems, they merely insult their users and do not respond intelligently. These are not the kind of people whose software I trust in my system anymore.
Thank you for the insight Mike, now I know why it freezes: you guys probably designed it that way on purpose. I'll be uninstalling WinAmp immediately.

I'm having the same problems, total freeze. Never had the problem with earlier versions. Winamp has a big bug with 2.64 and I can't get a reply out of them. Since I can't use Winamp, I've downloaded most of the other MP3 players and they all work very well on my computer. I have to assume the problem is with 2.64.

My winamp 2.64 also crashes my system. It was working fine until I installed media player 7 b from microshit This bug has been around for all versions since 2.5 and probably before as well.
I am wondering what the cause is please and can I fix it here or is a bug fix required

I have the same problem with 2.64. I've violated The Great Rule - "If your soft works, NEVER upgrade it!" - and now pay for it http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/frown.gif Ver. 2.52 worked OK. Now after playing several songs Winamp crashes the system (Windows 95 OSR2) totally, so that only reset button helps. It occurs always during playing a song. It occurs even on a recently restarted computer with almost no other programs running (only Getright and AVP antivirus monitor, and a copy of old DOS Norton Commander). The bug doesn't depend on playlist size - single song is enough.
I haven't modified my hardware or software since I've downloaded 2.64. I have Celeron 525 and 64M RAM, and several Gigs of free drive space.
Where can I find old Winamp version, like 2.52?
Later addition. I've found ver 2.50, and it works fine - quod erat demonstrandum.
