Server Test

Hi Guys,

I am running server tests today on a new machine. How do I know that it is passing all technical requirements? (other than finding myself banned the next day!).

I have set its max to 180 listeners, currently there are 166 listeners and as far as I can tell there is no buffering or any obvious signs of the stream being faulty.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Test the server without listing it publicly.

Once you are sure that there are no bandwidth or video issues, then you make the server public.

Video has been tested and working fine, I am not sure how to get 180 people onto the server to ensure the stress levels etc are working within the required specifications. Lets be honest, webhosting providers do over sell their wares.

My previous server got banned although the video was fine and the specs should have been able to handle the streams it was set to. I suspect that it was hit prety hard which took it over its limit. It was tested privately but I did not count on the demand out there.

Whats your advice on road testing a server in the real world?

Would be nice to have some sort of programme that automatically tests a new channel by logging on bots or something to give a new broadcaster an understanding of their hardware capabilities - I stress everytime I put something live - I already have a $200/m server gathering dust :(

Post the address here and ask people to "load test" the stream.

If you make a good faith effort to esure that your video is encoded properly and that you have set up your stream correctly, I am sure the moderators will take that into consideration.

I ran it in a test category - the server is humming! (So long as Jays NSV app does not do anything out of the ordinary) its good to go!

Its been posted to the appropriate category. Checked bandwidth ussage and its using just under the max 30Mbps with enough room for hammering from users.

It seems the server is what they made it out to be which is great :D.

I am going to watch it for a day or two, then we can start adding more content - lots of editing to do!
