I don't understand why nobody is able to answer this, or fix the problem for that matter. But I'm determined to keep trying until I do get an answer.

Last week my Windows 95 crashed. I installed Windows 98 SE and put in some more hard drive. I also decided to update my WinAmp to a newer version 2.62 I've been so happy with WinAmp, and thought this was a GOOD decision.. UNTIL I got that blasted "Couldn't Find Destination Format."

First of all, what exactly does this mean, and how the heck do I fix it?? I WANT ANSWERS!!!! I think myself, and all the other people asking about this "bug" don't need to be "ignored" anymore.

If someone at Nullsoft simply doesn't know how to fix it, then say so!!! I just don't understand how it could be THAT hard. It has been a problem in the past, and it will continue to be a problem until someone steps forward and helps us out.

I guess I just miss my wavs, and WinAmp.

Please, HELP!!!!!!!!

because this topic has been covered elsewere (http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/Forum11/HTML/000023.html)!
Is a thread with 48 posts (http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/Forum11/HTML/000023.html) so hard to miss ?

Also, posting again on a topic, just to get an answer is rude.
Posting again on a topic already covered (in great lenght) elswere is stupid.
Now take these two and combine them...

Is a thread with 48 posts (http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/Forum11/HTML/000023.html) so hard to miss ? ***FIRST of all, I'm *NEW* to this whole WavAmp deal. So do you think that someone who has NEVER been to the forums would ACTUALLY know where to look for the answer I needed in here?? I *DID* try searching through MANY different areas to find a solution to this topic, but after looking for 2 days and not finding any help I came here.

Also, posting again on a topic, just to get an answer is rude. ***I wouldn't have posted this topic again if a "Leader" wouldn't have DELETED my question the FIRST time around. I've found MANY people with this same problem, bitching about how everyone "ignores" them. You are the first one that's actually *TRIED* to help me with this.

Posting again on a topic already covered (in great lenght) elswere is stupid. ***And if I would have KNOWN where to find this topic that has already been "solved" then I wouldn't have COME HERE!!!! Did you even look at the link you sent me??? Can't you see all the others that were having this same problem, and getting hardly any answers??? I don't mean to "dump" on you, but when other "Leaders" are rude to you when all you wanted was some help (..that IS what this post is for..right?? It *DOES* say, "Speak Your Mind."), you tend to be RUDE back. It's only fair.

Now take these two and combine them...***Thanks. I guess if I have any more problems with WinAmp, I'll just go directly to the source. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ouch - verbal spanking...

Anyway, just a couple of suggestions:
i. Have you tried d/loading v2.64? Its not on the front page of the winamp site yet, but these forums are flush with links.
ii. Sounds like it could be a file association problem. I think v2.62 has a tool called winampA - this is a tool that helps to maintain the file types you want to link to winamp. If you go into your preferences, just check that winamp Agent is running.

Dave

*** Hi Dave, and THANK YOU ***SOO*** much for being friendly and nice!!! (Have you thought of applying for a Moderator position?? Hell, you have my vote.) I don't appreciate being called a rude, stupid idiot. I'll speak my mind if I have to. This forum is for HELPING, obviously these Moderators have forgotten that. Either that, or it's time to find a new line of work.

Anyway, just a couple of suggestions:
i. Have you tried d/loading v2.64? Its not on the front page of the winamp site yet, but these forums are flush with links.

*** I have D/L the 2.64 version but I'm still having the same "couldn't find destination format" prompt when I try and play any wavs.

ii. Sounds like it could be a file association problem. I think v2.62 has a tool called winampA - this is a tool that helps to maintain the file types you want to link to winamp.

*** What is a File Association problem, and how would I go about fixing that?? 2.62, eh?? Well, If I'm not mistaken, that's the version I had in the first place.. but I've lost everything from my computer crash. Do you know where I could get that version back??? I've tried piddling around in all the forums here, but haven't been very successful in finding any solutions. I just don't know enough about computers I guess.

If you go into your preferences, just check that winamp Agent is running.

*** I'm pretty sure it's running, I mean.. it pulls up the player when I want, it just doesn't play any wavs for me. I have an icon on the lower right hand side of my screen that says WinAmp Agent, but I can't find any options that say "preferences." I've tried pulling up a wav and right clicking on it, and setting it to "Play in WinAmp" but that doesn't work either. I would really appreciate it if you could e-mail me, and possibly help me out in more detail. Honestly, the sooner I can get OFF this website, the better. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

*** Dave, you are the greatest. And the first to give me decent advice. I just wish I knew more about computers.
Thanks again. ((((BiggHuggz)))) My e-mail is Yandsi@aol.com Please, let me know if you might be able to help me out some more. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

*** Thanks Cannon_Fodder, but I did look at the link, and tried the numerous things it mentioned for me to do, but none of them worked. If I had ICQ, I would be able to talk to the guy who said he had a fix, but I don't have ICQ, so I'm back to square one.

This one is for Yandsi...I still have WinAmp v2.62 if you want it. I can send it to you through E-mails. My address is Eggroll666@aol.com. And just for the record, I can't even install v2.64. It keeps giving me a "CRC check failed" error message. I don't know if you can help me with that, but you may have suggestions...I hope... http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/wink.gif

About that "destination format" error:

If you got that by trying to play a .WAV, then it was probably a compressed track. I got this error whenever I was running without an MP3 codec installed.

Go to your multimedia control panel, open the Advanced pane, click the lus sign next to "Audio Compression Codecs" and look for an MP3 codec. If it's there, open it and reactivate it. Your compressed WAV will then play properly. If not there, you'll have to install one.

I think MS's newer Media Players install one, but I use a Fraunhoefer codec.

Can anyone suggest where to get a good codec?

I got the hook-up
Check out http://members.aol.com/networldb/winampfix.html There is a verified fix there. It worked for me (Windows 98 SE). All you do is click the downloaded file and restart your computer - thats it!!!

Webwizard dude !

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a load of utter bullfrogs ?!?!

The CIH virus is NOT written in to the Winamp installer, no way man !

What it means is that your system is already infected with the CIH virus & therefore every EXE file you open subsequently gets infected.

Luckily, the Winamp Installer has a CyclicRedundancyChecking utility that detects this, whereas most other EXE files don't !

CIH has been around for over 2 years and most people should have a fix for it by now, either in their A-V Software signature files or by a seperate MS-DOS based program such as the Proland one in your link.

Could you please do us all a favour & stop crossposting this same misguided response all over the forums & especially not in threads that died over 2 months ago.
Could you please also stop flaming Nullsoft & the forum moderators.
It's not our faults if you have a virus on your pc or if your Anti-Virus Software isn't up to scratch !

Thankyou in advance.
