I am trying winamp DSP to see if i can at least get it to work since i cant get nsvtools to work.
I got dsp installed and configured properly.
I am running NO fire walls. No virus protection.
But when I click Connect it does not connect.

ok so i tried the port scan over at radiotoolbox.com and the tool says that I am behind a firewall. I have turned off all firewalls. I do not have any virus software at all even installed on my computer.
I do however have a linksys router wrt54g
hmmm i disabled the firewall in the router. So I don't know wht the prob is.

What is the IP address of your computer running winamp with shoutcast DSP ? If you have a private address of
192.168.x.x 172.16.x.x 172.21.x.x or 10.x.x.x you are running NAT.
do you have the shoutcast server all ready running? You need that working before the DSP can connect. If everything is running on the same system, try using 127.0.0.1 (localhost) for the server IP addres.
Read the docs as well. it helps.

Yes my shout cast server is up and runnin on a remote linux server: here: http://70.86.125.82:2606/
my local Ip is: 192.168.1.100 but my WEB IP is :67.187.117.24
NOw in my linksys wrt54g router I have a feature called "gaming and applications" where it lets me configure the following opitons: " Port Range Forward |
Port Triggering |
DMZ |
QoS "
In each of those categories it ask about port info.

Ok I followed this tutorial for my router: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G/Winamp_Audio_Streaming.htm
It still is not working. I am trying to upstream from home to a remote server . Is this the correct way to set it up? because the tutorial i read here: http://www.allinternetradio.com/shoutcast-firewalls3.asp
seems like they are instructin you how to do it when you are using your local machine as the dnas server.
I dunno.

oh and btw. I don't know if it matters. But when i tried to make my IP statick by going to the network properties tcp/ip setttings and chose the ip that I saw in the CMD command in the Dos window.
Well when i made my ip static my interenet stopped working. I went to the routers configuartion panel and it had dropped me from the DHCP server.
So I reset it back to obtain an IP automatically and the internet started working again. So i cant use a static ip but thats ok i know how to reset everything to the working ip if i ever boot.
But needless to say i followed the instruction exactly as listed except for I did not use a static ip

Sputnik, ask your host to open the ports 2606 and 2607 in IPTables. The SHOUTcast DNAS needs two ports : one for outgoing and the other for incoming.

They are both open.
let me ask you ? you know my config.
in dsp what adress should i stream to? This one right?: http://70.86.125.82:2606/
Now if that is correct lets move on.
I got the right password.
I got my port forwarded to 2606 and 2606 in my routers config panel at IP: 192.168.1.100. THAT IS MY LOCAL IP.
My default gateway is 192.168.1.1
So what am i doing wrong?

I thought to have understood that 70.86.125.82 was a rented server. So, you don't need to modify the settings of your own computer.
In the DSP as the Address of the server, put 70.86.125.82 and as the port 2606. The password is yours. It should connect. If it doesn't check the server's logs (I said the server's).
sputnik radio

this is the results of port test for 2607 on my local machine but with my public ip
67.187.117.24:2607 is Closed
Reason Given: Connection refused
More about this error: This essentially means that the port is open to the internet but has no services associated with it. There is no firewall protection on this port.
and i get the same for 2606

Yeah i understand that but this dang tutorial assumes im running dnas on a local server so i get it all confused.
Ok so the last port scan said they were both open but connection refused.
earlier it was telling me that they had fire walls so i think i got past that hurdle . now gotta figure out what else is wrong.
so ?????

If you could only take one second to try to understand. Posting here isn't a real solution till you don't want to make the effort to understand : we don't talk about your own machine firewall, we don't care about.
You should check your server's (at the IP you know) password. I bet that I can connect without problem. Check the password in the sc_serv.conf file.

I think they are open. in my dnas server i am using 2606 and it is working with sc_trans . I have it kicked at the moment but it works. so if the ports were not open would sc_trans still work?

I appreciate your input. But know this . I have been glued to my computer for over 12 hours a day for the last week trying to get this up and running. I have made much progress but there is just so much stuff involved. I have read and attempted in every way imaginable to educate myself by reading everything i could find on the internet. It seems at almost every point in this process something don't work right. tutorials don't fix the problem. Im am chipping it away one chip at a time.

Damned ! Check your DNAS password. I bet you are providing your usuall password instead the one you had setup in the sc_serv configuration file. It is totally different.
And to be complete : sc_trans is broadcasting from the server and in 127.0.0.1 so it doesn't absolutely care about any firewall or so.
Check your password I told you. This time, Goodbye !

I changed both the broadcaster password and the admin password to be the same. both passwords are the same. ******
I can log on to my server admin panel using this password. It is the ONLY password I have configured in the sc_serv.conf file.
I have put this password in my DSP plugin password field and it still does not connect.
and yes i restarted the server.

I connected without a problem.
I am playing an mp3 file that is sittin on my desktop. using aac+ input from winamp. I know that dsp hears the music because the little equalizer bars are moving up and down.
when i click connect it just trys and then within a split second it says disconnected.

17th February 2006, 17:56
And do the levels in the Main tab of the SHOUTcast Source DSP plug-in move ?
I don't know what the AAC+ input is.
sputnik radio
17th February 2006, 18:01
yeah they move.
i checked my logs again. The only connection i see was the one you made.
some how my attempt to connect is being blocked from This side of my router.
I dont know if its xp or my router that is blocking it. I have made sure i have no firewalls.
I even did a port scan and listed the results above. Got connection refused .
let me reboot everything and try again.
sputnik radio
17th February 2006, 18:38
What I have done is bypass my router and plugged directly to the cable modem
I still get the same no connection problem so I know its not the router.
I did another port scan and it says the same thing that the port is open but connection refused.
It also says that perhaps my isp has me behind a proxy. So im gonna give them a call to see whats up.
I also notice that when i launch IE i can see down in the status bar it says: "detecting proxy setting" so i think perhaps that is it?
sputnik radio
17th February 2006, 19:04
well chatted with ISP support they said that i am not behind a proxy and that my ports are not blocked.
sputnik radio
17th February 2006, 19:14
ok so i narrowed it down the fact that it is not my router. It is not my isp. it is not my dnas because it is running and works fine with sc_tans.
Ive tried it on two different computers one with xp one with 2k.
This is the log from my last server restart a few moments ago.

in your log you posted above DNAS throws the error that some other proscess is using that port. That means you restarted the server on the linux box and it did not cleanly exit.
You have two options: Call the host and tell them to reboot the box; or track down the pids that DNAS is using and kill them. On linux you must be root to do this: ('su root' in a terminal, provide the password, and 'kill pid ####').

FC*uk....that was from when i was messing around in putty i have that problem fixed.
Plus others can connect and stream to my server no problem.
my problem is getting the dsp to connect to any network.
I just installed sc_serv on my win2k machine. I have it hooked to this computer via a router. All firewalls are gone. And the ports are forwarded.
I couldnt even get dsp to connect to my home server.
I was testing to see if i could connect to it if i put the server on a local ip . and it still gives the same problem . NOT CONNECTING to anything. the little network connection icon does not even light up when i click connect. its not even trying.

little network icon like in the taskbar? If yes, then you have a bad cat5e cable, port, or nic in general.
sputnik radio
17th February 2006, 23:45
yes its not even trying to light up when i click connect to indicate that it is sending any data out.
its like dsp is not connected into my network thats what it seems like . as if it dont know there is a network present for it to access.
ive tried it without the router . i bypassed the linksys router and tried it with a direct connection to the cable modem and still did not work.
plus ive tried it on 2 different computers as well.

then you have a bad cable if numerous computers give you the same problem. Do the green and orange lights turn on on the back of the nic? Do the lights on the router port light up when the rj45 is jacked in?
However, the the network card or cable is bad, then how the hell are you accessing these forums????

just to be clear. my network connection icon DOES light up when i am experiencing network traffic no problem there.
But it does NOT light up at all when i click the connect button in dsp. in other words i clicked it like a hundred times real fast to see if the network connection icon would light up and it does not. it only lights up when something else on my computer is using it.

you are not making the connection to dnas then. Bingo was able to do it, so I am guessing:
A. You are using the incorrect password
B. Something is blocking your port on your local computer.
C. You are not using the correct host address
These are just about the only possibilities as this functionality of the shoutcast software has worked and worked well for billions of others.

a. I have checked like a zillion times. I am using the same password for everything. I have but only ONE password entered EVERYWHERE!!!
B. I did a port scan at radiotoolbox.com . the port scan indicated that the port is open but "CONNECTION REFUSED" because NO SERVICE was present.
C. I am using : DSP SETTINGS:

Talked about this morning with some friends. Possible solutions :
1/ you have to create an outgoing rule in your router's settings to allow outgoing traffic from the LAN IP on ports 2606 and 2607 to the DEST IP
2/ you can have a ghost service running on your computers (Internet Security not well uninstalled, ZA rests, XP firewall rule not allowing the SHOUTcast Source DSP plug-in for Winamp to access the internet)
3/ (just lough) : this is black magic voodoo and ask your wife about :)
Hope this could help
