Dazed

A new wrinkle in Winamp, which I hadn't seen in earlier versions - now that I have 5.2, it consumes a little (1-10%) of ongoing CPU activity even when it's not playing anything. This can go on for many minutes (an hour or more?).
It's not a big deal, since it's not obviously affecting performance, but I am curious . . . what is Winamp doing?
(I've noticed this on both our Windows ME and XP Home PCs.)
