View Full Version : And here they come....the new batch of 5 star ripoffs

Looking through the new batch of featured 5 star skins as I often do. And yes, I rarely see something worthwhile or original, but hey, I guess I have hope. But to destroy my hope even further I ran across rip offs that recieve 5 stars. Nice. I thought a skin wasn't even available to be rated if it was ripped off. Silly me. Consider if you will:

1)flyAMP (http://www.winamp.com/customize/detail.jhtml?componentId=23931)

Yeah it's SpyAmp Pro (http://www.winamp.com/customize/detail.jhtml?componentId=15102). Okay, I understand that the creator was probably just making a change to SpyAMP (changed color), but the the reviewer gives him credit as if the whole design was his idea

2)Nuf (http://www.winamp.com/customize/detail.jhtml?componentId=23758)

Yeah, that's definitely SNIPeAMP Pro v2.3 (http://www.winamp.com/customize/detail.jhtml?componentId=22182)

Geez, I understand that it's hard to spot knock offs, but these caught my eyes quickly. They have all been other recent featured 5 star skins. If I was one of the creators I'd be pissed off that someone else was able to put no work into a skin, steal my idea, and get a 5 star rating. That's just messed up.

Hi, I'm the author of SNIPeAMP Pro v2.3 and I can definetly confirm the "pissed off" part. (see my topic "RIP!!!!")

It's just unbelievable that the reviewers have put "nuf" and "flyamp" up in the top 10...I mean snipeamp was in the top 10 about a week ago, and now the same people who put it there, have given "nuf" a five star rating, kinda short of memory don't you think?

As for "Flyamp"... any reviewer who's never seen spyamp before shouldn't be reviewing skins in the first place.

I believe I can speak for everyone who's five-star skin was ripped off - by someone jealous who's no good at making skins himself so he decides to steal one - when i say:

" DEAR RIPPER...I BET YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE MADE THIS SKIN YOURSELF... http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/tongue.gif "

The next time someone rips one of skins, it would be real tempting to put his email adress on the forum.

so anyone else who doesn't appreciate skins being ripped off can send the ripper an email http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

They say Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,
but I would still have to say that it seems that this problem is getting worse and worse.
Before Winamp 3 comes out i would like to see
some serious improvement in the area of killing knockoffs. Since undoubtedly winamp 3
skins will take much more effort to make, allowing people to freely rip them off all the more scandalous.

If you send an e-mail to steve (a friendly one!), or any other web team members, they will take care of the rip... you should include proof the one skin is yours and the other is a rip.

People, PLEASE do not use any software that can do damnage to other peoples computers. Just because they are assholes doesn't mean that they need to spend 10hrs geting their computer back in order. It's your fastest to being kicked off your isp.. Now you wouldn't want that to happen... Then who comes out on top? There are better ways to solve disagreements than brute force.

Winamp 3 should have some skin protection.. like.. the skin files should be made in an app by nullsoft (just putting it all together) and the file should have a rough encryption... the credits could be stored in the file so rips could easily be thrown out before they are posted and reviewed. also, the images should have some type of watermark (it can be done) just so little pieces can't be riped... anyone like these ideaS?
