ok help me someone! i have created a skin in paint... and i dont know how 2 put it on my winamp player OR the website! gosh i feel stupid....and i even read the faq but no help there... is there a program 2 download or somethin? or a special way 2 do that? and whats this .TXT stuff???

you need some major help here...
first of all you need to download a program called WinZip.
Get all of your files together and zip them with WinZip into one file
now you have to convert the new file into .wsz format
.TXT files are files that determine the color and font of the playlist

Guys, this newbie obviously has no idea what he's doing. I bet he's got 3 BMPs, each 275x116, and a TXT file that has "AaBbCcDdEeFfGg..." et cetera in it. Nowhere near a complete skin.

I find a really useful thing to do when creating your skin is to look at what other people have done. If you take a skin in .wsz format and change it into a .zip format you can look at the bmps that make up all the different components of the skin. This is really useful for picking up techniques, like how to make your image go over your volume control and stuff like that. When I did my skin I didn't know there were packages to help you line stuff up, and so I had to rely completely on other peoples skins, and literally count the positions pixel by pixel. Of course you should unzip other peoples skins for REFERENCE ONLY, otherwise you'll get a whole lot of very pissed off skinners baying for your blood and wanting to know why your skin look just like theirs.

Some one new to skinning an application should first of all learn by example... By examining other downloaded skins...

You should try editing existing skins and try to understand of what files a skin is consisted of... etc etc...

By the way, Microsoft Paint isn't a recommended tool for skinning... Not even pro grafix designers can use it.....

As for your (someone's) statement that the guy in question had in fact read the FAQ and needed a little more help, I ask this question: Why? I read the FAQ for the first time last week. You don't need to know anything other than how to unzip a ZIP file, and how to alter BMPs.

Personally, I have various tastes of humor. In actuallity, profanity doesn't top them. I prefer the sarcastic, witty, and at times cynical comments that tend to frustrate people greatly. Iomegajaz: Why does it fucking piss you off so much when a "newbie" asks a question? Despite what you claim, you and I both know you didn't ALWAYS know what a .bmp file and a .txt file was. You had to learn it somehow. You didn't pop out of momma's womb with the knowledge. Like me, you probably got a computer, played around with it, read a book or two and learned that way. The only mistake Mack made was coming to this forum to ask his questions. It seems to be so much easier for you to flame someone rather than just give them a straight answer. Why is that? I think you are intolerent. You had three choices:
#1. Give the the guy a short, polite answer to his question.
#2. Flame and belittle him with long anger filled posts.
#3. Just ignore him.
Why you choose to do #2 is beyond me. It really serves no purpose. And it doesn't reflect well on you to respond that way in a public forum.
