View Full Version : Re-submit , Whats the point?

"Make sure that your comments direct the reviewer to the parts of your component that have changed since your last submission."

These are the words that are on everybodys resource page, written by the gods at Winamp.

However whats the point in re-submitting?.

My point, a skin I submitted , ohhhh , back in early august, gets a half decent review, points out a few bugs which I admit I hadn't noticed, but on the whole, positive. I then proceed to go back to the skin, armed with the review, and bug highlights and proceed to fix up said bugs, and generally modify the whole skin, based on comments in the review.

nearly 8 weeks of waiting later for the skin to be re-reviewd it finally happens, ohhh excitement, what will they say, will it get another star, ohhh the excitement, what do i get?? the skin gets posted back onto winamp, with exactly the same review as before, pointing out exactly the same bugs and cosmetic issues, that are no longer there.

Two questions here, what was the point in waiting 8 weeks for a re-review, and should I have even bothered to fix it up anyhow, as people reading the skin description will still think it bug ridden.

This hardly inspires me to keep skinning, waiting weeks for nothing is hardly what I would call a re-review.

And before you ask what the link to the skin is, I've deleted it in sheer disgust at the crappy review system here.

Well, if you make skins for the sole purpose of 'getting a good review by Winamp'....then maybe you should stop.

In fact, I'll tell ya right now you should.

I agree with Zeruel, stars or reviews shouldn't be the sole purpose for creating skins. But I think it is the purpose with some people for making changes or corrections and re-submitting a skin.

Since you went through all the time and effort to change cosmetic issues and correct bugs, and then re-submit your skin, I definitely would not have deleted it in disgust. Instead,if the review was an exact word-for-word carbon copy of the first review, I would have contacted one of the Mods here or contacted Admin personally to let them know about it, because apparently something went awry with your re-submission. Admin does reply, and they do care! I had a similar problem once, I submitted a skin, it was posted with a review for my skin but the screenshot was of another skin with a very similar name. I contacted Admin, they told me there was a small bug in the database, they fixed it, all is well with the world again! http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

If the review for your re-submission is not a word-for-word carbon copy of the first, are you sure when you re-submitted that you sent the corrected skin and not the original skin? Just a thought http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah , Im sure it was exactly word for word, as I say it pointed out a couple of bugs( one fairly obvious one) that can clearly be not seen on the screen shots of the revised skin, the review points to it, but clearly it's not there, this is also the case with the cosmetic changes, two suggestions were made in the original review, both of which were acted upon, and both those suggestions are still in the re-post review, and yes it is the revised skin, I've downloaded it and checked.

As a point of note, the skin is still on the site, i was persuaded by a friend who I did the skin for to leave it posted, they thought after waiting so long for it to get posted, it was better to leave it for people to download.

While I don't skin for the reviews, they are a good pointer sometimes as to where to improve a skin once it's submitted, after all, when you are making these things, u always think you've done the best job possiable, and are sometimes blind to where mistakes are or where a skin can be improved.

My only previous experience at contacting admin , using the "contact us page" , regarding a technical question on the using of this site, resulted in a null response.

Anyhow Jayn, your a mod, so what next?

A couple of points:

Based on posts Mr Jones has made elsewhere, I'd say he's adult enough to not be skinning just for the stars.

I think the frustration here is that the reviews, like it or not, are a filter between the designer trying to get his skin seen and the seeing public. Things like *******copy reviews or even less than five stars can make a skin hard to find amongst the teeming thousands.

Point: there are other skin sites out there. Some of which I prefer over the Winamp site (WSD, for instance http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/wink.gif). Is the attraction to Winamp that they are the "home" site?

Also, Mr Jones, I'm interested in seeing some of your work. Could you list off a couple of your skins? Can I find them on, say, 1001 Skins?

Thanks for that cappy, yep definately adult enuff LOL, well last time i checked, and no im not skinning for the stars.

All i ask is a fair review, especially after taking the time and effot to absorb the initial comments made by the reviewers, which were fair at the time, and not a cut paste effot after weeks of waiting. If it was a genuine mistake or error then fair enuff, but im now loathe to resubmit again, as to be quite honest I cant be bugged to wait another millenia for the re-review.

Oh and by the way cappy, do u really wanna view my work LOL, shhhhhssss dont tell anyone, but I have done the occasional picture skin as well as other stuff, oh no i'll be struck down now LOL, I dont make metalic skins http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif, sometimes eyecandy is better ;-)

Why do i use winamp?, good question, Initialy the feedback I was getting about sumbissions was extremely usefull, but after a number of cut paste reviews and now this I see differnt, and yest I do post to other sites as well, not WSD, but I will check into that.

Anyhow, back to the day job , oh no im home for the evening now LOL http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah, come on, give me just one name, I'll run from there.

I don't think anyone here would dis picture skins (although I know a few prefer to avoid them). Now, skinner skins, never admit to that... http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/wink.gif
