System:

(system with winamp)
p4 2.8 occ'ed to 3.2
asus mobo
xp pro, service pack 2
radeon 9800 pro all in wonder
sb live usb
drivers all current
dx9

(system serving my network tons of mp3s, movies, etc)
p3 tualatin 1.4
soyo mobo
2 gigs ram
albatron gforce ti4280
xp pro service pack 1
drivers all current
dx9

Problem : Winamp stall for minutes when it searches my pentium 3. Sometimes it just craps the bed and crashes completely. The Tualatin is a faaaaast computer, and rock solid. Sometimes i feel like looking for the hand crank to help winamp get in gear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I dumped ms media player 9-10 b/c of the huge memory leak. Im trying to make winamp work, but ill go with whatever i got to buy to get quick access to files, a reliable player, and a good file system/playlist system.

thanks

What problem exactly?
I didn't really understand from Larkby's post when the lag actually occured...
When loading Winamp, when loading a file in Winamp, or when Winamp 'searches' (?) his computer?

If on Winamp startup, the lag may be related to the Portable Media Player plugin. That plugin looks for connected devices on startup. You could try disabling it to see if that's indeed causing the freeze-up...

While Winamp is closed, go to C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins, and rename the file ml_pmp.dll to eg ml_pmp.off. You may need to configure Windows to show file extensions (http://nunzioweb.com/misc/show_file_extensions.htm).
